They walked down the hall. It smelled of lavender and roses and mourning. Trunks stopped just outside the entrance. He could see her close to the coffin. She was wearing a simple black dress. She looked small, frail, vulnerable.
"You okay?" Goten asked.
Trunks sighed and nodded. Okay? He couldn't remember the last time he had been okay. Not since meeting her. I'm never okay.
"There are a lot of people." Trunks said. He was hoping that Goten would get the hint. He didn't, or at least it didn't register on his face.
Trunks looked around the room. It was as simple as her dress, which made it the more overpowering. The walls were white- not too clean- not too dirty either. Just white.
"Would you like to sit down?"
Trunks turned and looked at the woman rather absently.
"Would you like to sit?" The woman repeated again. "I can bring you some chairs, if you'd like."
"We're fine. Thank you." Goten added. He smiled at the woman and then looked at Trunks once she was gone.
"What do you want to do?" Goten asked.
"I-" Trunks stopped. He watched as she turned and looked at him. He felt himself retreat but found himself walking towards her.
"Trunks." She said quietly. Her eyes were red from crying and brand new tears lingered at their corners, threatening to escape.
"I'm sorry." He whispered.
"Oh Trunks." She said.
She reached for him, seeking comfort in his arms. Lavender. She smells like lavender. He let himself hold her tighter. Her quiet sobs were tearing away at his soul. It's okay.
"It's okay." Trunks whispered in her ear. He looked at Goten move to the back of the room.
"My grandpa." She said.
"I know." He brushed her hair gently. He ignored the small the tiny flash of light on her hand. Forget it. Just for a minute. Just for a minute.
"Tracy?"
Trunks closed his eyes briefly. Back to reality.
"Tracy?" A man approached them from the left.
"Tom." Tracy said. She wiped her eyes with her sleeves but she didn't break Trunks' embrace.
"Father Mer wants to speak to you." Tom said. He looked at Trunks warily.
"Okay." Tracy said.
"He's in the back." Tom said. He touched Tracy's shoulders and guided her away from Trunks' embrace and into his arms.
"Um-I should go." Tracy said. She looked at Trunks.
He smiled sadly and nodded.
"I'll take you." Tom said.
Trunks looked at Tracy walk away with Tom. Of course. That's how it should be. He's supposed to be comforting her, not me.
"You okay?" Goten asked. He didn't press for an answer.
Trunks looked at the coffin. Closed coffin. She got a closed coffin. He sighed and looked at the gold band on his finger. It glittered radiantly. A reminder...
"Fine." Trunks said.
He had watched the woman of his dreams walk away with the man she had chosen to love. I'm fine...I hope.
