I rewatched LOTR yesterday and I just had to write some Merry/Pippin fluffiness :) I don't own these adorable hobbits or anything else to do with Lord Of The Rings. Enjoy!
Pippin tossed and turned in the sheets of the bed but he could not find sleep. Whilst the others slept soundly by his sides, Pippin was confused, cold, and scared. He eventually gave up and flopped down onto the bed, his head hitting the pillow with a soft thud. Next to him, Merry stirred.
"Pip?" Merry's voice was quiet but gruff from sleep. When he got no answer, he reached out and gently shook the arm of the hobbit in front of him.
"Come on Pippin, I know you're not asleep" Merry still got no answer and he began to get a little anxious. He was about to call out to his cousin again when he heard a small whimper. It was barely noticeable but Merry knew instantly whose lips it had come from. He slowly sat up, shuffled over, and rolled Pippin over to face him. The sight he saw was the young Took, his auburn curls tangled, and his rosy cheeks tear-stained. Merry had to hold back his own tears at seeing his dearest cousin and friend so upset. Their eyes met- sky blue on grass green- and for a moment, everything was still. Then the moment was broken as Pippin almost threw himself at Merry and hugged at his waist like his life depended on it. Merry wrapped his arms protectively around Pippin's slightly shaking body. They stayed there for a while, letting the silence of the night take hold. Finally, Pippin pulled back and sat up. His eyes remained locked with Merry's.
"What's wrong Pip?"
"I'm scared"
Pippin's reply was simple but Merry understood everything that it meant. He laid down and opened his arms, inviting the younger into his warmth. Pippin accepted and crawled into Merry's loving hold. He curled himself into Merry's side and let his head nuzzle his chest. Whenever Pippin had gotten scared at night by a nightmare, he would run to Merry's room and seek his protective embrace. From when he was hardly old enough to walk and right up to this night, Pippin would always find Merry for protection and comfort. Now, as he curled into his cousin's side, he felt himself finally being able to drift off. But not before tasting the sweetness of Merry's lips in a small tender kiss, like so many of the others they had shared together under the cover of darkness and night.
"I love you"
"I love you too, Pip"
Eventually, a dreamless sleep took over them both.
