Hot tears ran down her cheeks. Wet lips trembled at the horrid noises that came from the other room. She was scared. So scared. Her fingers gripped the front of his shirt, holding on...desperately clinging to him. She could feel his arms around her. His strong embrace that made her feel at peace, that had always kept her safe.
A loud crash then sounded and it made her jump. She buried her face in his chest as she felt his palm rest gently against the back of her head, cradling it. He was showing her that he was here and that they were still alive. She just didn't know how long that would last.
"Kurosaki-kun?" she called out. Her tone was soft and shaky.
"Yeah?" he answered. His tone was serious and gruff.
"Thank you," she whispered through closed eyes. He had kept them both safe for a long but unfortunately, the end was near. She was, at least, grateful that she had stayed alive this long to have her last moment with him.
"Don't you dare give up!" he snapped and it made her eyes jerk open. She looked up at him quickly, her stormy eyes locking with dark chocolate brown. He had a dark scowl on his lips, an expression of determination and will flickering across his face. "I won't let them touch you, got it? They won't get the chance to hurt you. I swear."
Another crash and then angry, inhumane screams shattered like glass around them, making it almost seemingly impossible to not let fear capture them. She let out a whimper and closed her eyes again. She didn't want to see them. Their horrible, disfigured faces. Their rotting skin. It was too much because once upon a time, they had been like her. Human.
As she kept her face hidden, the grip he had on the baseball bat tightened. He would protect her until his last dying breath. He wouldn't let anything happen to her. That had gotten this far, they would only get father. It would be over his dead boy that one of them would have the slightest chance to touch her and turn her.
Not until his last, dying breath.
