No one had Steve Rogers' darkside, well that was a lie. Bucky Barnes had seen Steve's darkside, once, only once. His eyes had gone black, things around him had flown across the room without either of them moving. The priest had thought it was a demon until Steve shut his eyes and began panting, his nose dripping with blood. Everyone became more concerned for his health than for the 'Demon Within'. But Rumlow just had to taunt him, just had to test the limit of the saint without. It all started with that sharp grin like he knew something you didn't.
"Maybe you haven't seen my darkside Rumlow." He growled, growled, Barnes closed his eyes and opened them looking at the ceiling. He looked back at the once scrawny kid he had patched up countless times.
"A saint like you? You don't have one." Barnes let out a whine, that's what the last person who made Steve snap had said. The Avengers looked at Barnes, weak and weary who was doing his best to look like he wasn't there.
"Steve, don't do it." He whimpered pleading with him. "He's not worth it." But Bucky, the voice deep inside the shell of Barnes already knew it was too late, that sharp grin turned sadistic and Steve quietly set his shield down. The shield was the first thing to fly across the room as Barnes shouted. "Duck!" to the Avengers. They threw themselves to the floor as they watched Steve's eyes turn black.
"I'll be damned." Rumlow gasped as he tried to dodge things. There was a scream of pain as the Avengers followed Barnes' lead and hid their eyes.
"You know... I hate having to do that." Barnes looked up and licked his lips.
"Steve. You promised."
"I know...sorry." The soldier buried his face in Barnes' neck. "But he hurt you." The assassin curled his fingers, the flesh and bone ones, in the super soldier's hair. Barnes closed his eyes and brought his other arm around Steve's back not looking at the Avengers.
"I personally would like to never see Cap's darkside again." Tony spoke shuddering looking at Rumlow's corpse.
"I can't promise that Tony, never could." Steve sighed resting his forehead against Barnes' neck.
"Oh..oh that's why you need him...he keeps the darkness calm." Clint spoke snapping his fingers. Steve nodded a bit curling around Barnes like he could shield him from the world.
"My angel in the dark. Always has been."
