Poisoned Hope

Unknown POV

Image

Arthur and his knights were out searching again. The worry had buried deep within Arthur's heart. It was now going on six months since Merlin was taken. He was taken right under the nose of Camelot. While under the cover of darkness the kidnapper, whoever it was, slipped past all the guards and had taken Merlin. Arthur had an idea who Merlin was taken by, but he wasn't sure.

The sun was setting over the forest. The knights were worn out from riding all day. Most others of Camelot had given up hope of ever finding the beloved servant of Camelot. As much as Arthur loathed to admit it he and Merlin were close; the pair were like brothers. Losing Merlin would be devastating, not just for Arthur, but for all of Camelot. Little did Arthur know how true that statement really was.

This is only a small part of the story. I am the missing piece of the puzzle. I grazed my hand over the top of the lake surface and the image of Arthur and his knights disappeared. I strolled along the lake edge my hand flowing out beside me. Above the surface of the lake a small ball of light flickered and spun. I am a being of magic. Hidden away for most of my life with my father; I have always been on the run. I am the younger of twins. My brother lives within the walls of Camelot. He has to hide who he is, but I have seen the stuff he does to protect the beautiful city.

I pull away from the lake and walk into the trees. A large old tree stands in the middle of a clearing. I look at the ground and my sky blue eyes flash with gold as I gently shoot off the ground. If anyone ever asked how I pull that little trick off the answer is easy. Most of those with the gift of magic don't understand all the ways it works. To fly up into the tree branches I just use the pushing spell. Because it is aimed at the ground it rebounds and launches the caster of the spell.

As I float up into the tree branches I close my eyes and land with the ball of my foot first. The large tree has been hollowed out be magic so it happens to be waterproof. Groups of flowers line the tops of the walls and the floor of the hollow is a deep rich brown. There are furnishings all around the room and on an upper floor there is a bed for me to lay in.

Now before I go on, I will be sure to answer the one question I get most often. Who I am.

My name is Hope, and it is my destiny to protect Camelot's protector.
