The Making of His Kitten: Prologue
Author's Note 9/25/15: I'm rewriting these chapters because I spent far less time on them than on His Kitten and I think it shows. I'm stuck on editing the main story at this point seeing as I'm not sure whether I should go back and rewrite chapters completely or just edit like I have been. I'm kind of leaning towards rewriting but I'm not sure at this point.
I take some liberties and throw random things in at times, including the whole "writer", "director" thing because for some reason I am really uncomfortable with putting names in for that and I don't know why. But I also picked a random pronoun for the two too.
Thank you for reading this and, if you have read it, His Kitten.

Third POV:
Sebastian Michaelis and Ciel Phantomhive, casted actors for the upcoming show "Kuroshitsuji" or "Black Butler", were called into the office of the writer where both the writer and the director stood waiting for the stars.
The two actors were brothers, though they didn't look like it at all, in fact they weren't related by blood at all. Instead the two were step-brothers but they acted as close as any blood related siblings might be.
The two stepped into the office, having come inside after being transported by a fancy, black car.
Each brother took a seat in a separate red chair once they were told to do so and waited to hear what there was to be said. To them it was obvious that something about the show had been changed and it had to do with them.
Finally after a few moments of silence Sebastian, the older of the two brothers, spoke up.
"What is it that you needed to talk to us about?"
The man sitting at his desk just smiled and rested his chin on his interlaced fingers.
"Well, as I'm sure you two have figured out, we are planning on making a pretty large change to the script that we've laid out so far."
He seemed to wait for a response from the brothers.
Finally, Ciel got annoyed enough with the silence to speak up.
"What changes do you mean?"
This time it was the man standing that spoke, this one being the director and the other being the writer.
"We think there needs to be something a bit different. Actually we think that there needs to be more "romance.""
He made sure to make air quotes with his hands.
"Actually it was research that told us that, so we've decided to add another character to the show."
The two actors looked a bit confused.
"Why are you telling us this when you could have just gone ahead and done as you liked? You could have told us after the new actor was cast."
Sebastian shrugged and just relaxed into his chair.
"Well you see, Ciel has a fiancé in the show."
The blue eyed boy nodded a bit.
"But Sebastian has no singular love interest."
The red eyed man blinked and looked a bit confused.
"So this new character will be my love interest?"
The writer beamed and nodded at the two.
"Precisely!"
He then went into a spiel about what they thought that this new character, and the actress that played her would have to have.
"So we figured that a normal human is not very likely someone that your character would have an interest in. So naturally this new character would be a demon."
Sebastian shrugged a bit, not being opposed to the idea while at the same time not really caring.
"Also she needs a feature to make her stand out, to draw our demon butler's eyes toward her and what better for that than making her a neko!"
At this the older brother blinked and nodded a bit.
"Alright."
The director laughed a bit.
"We figured you would be alright with that."
Like the character he would portray, Sebastian was very fond of cats. To be even more honest, he loved them.
Ciel sighed a bit and crossed his arms. He did not mind cats and he was not like his character in the show considering he wasn't allergic to them but he did find his older brother's behavior to be annoying whenever he came across a cat.
"I don't see much of a problem with it…"
With the approval of the main two cast members the group continued speaking about what qualifications this new actress or character might need.
"We need a young woman who will be willing to act like a cat in certain ways. You will both be involved in her casting because she will be working closely with both of you."
Ciel and Sebastian nodded again. This would mean more work for them but they weren't about to complain about it.
The writer rose a hand up and then slammed it down on the desk.
"Our search begins now!"
Melody POV: Elsewhere a Few Days Later
I sat down calmly with a four year old blond in my lap before pushing some of my long, black hair out of my face. The toddler was getting comfortable to listen to a story that our mother was getting ready to read to him and the other children of the daycare that I helped in.
You see my mother opened a daycare when I was younger and since I've gotten older I help a lot. Especially now since I'm out of school and have a lot of free time to help and keep the kids entertained.
It was only last year that I graduated school and after that started working full time in my mother's daycare, sometimes refusing pay if she's a little behind on bills or such.
I still live here at home with my mother; Anna Silver, my father; Harold Silver, and my little brother; Arthur Silver.
I'm Melody Silver, or as the kids in the daycare know me, Ms. Melody.
Sometimes I do get called "Ms. Kitty" or things close to that due to my way of entertaining the children or my habit of stopping to talk to stray cats. There were several times that the cats actually came up and let me pet them too.
Mother began reading a children's book to her little "hatchlings", as she liked to call them. I didn't pay much attention because it was something I had both read and heard a hundred times before. I was just waiting for the walk.
After Mother finished reading we often took the kids on a walk around a couple blocks, not too far from the daycare that was also our home. There was a park nearby that we sometimes took the kids to on nice days, but we always made sure that they had enough energy to walk back.
When Mother finished reading the book I found myself looking into the green eyes of my younger brother.
"Sissy, will you put on one of your costumes for the walk?"
I sighed a little bit and nodded.
"Alright I guess, but only my ears!"
I pointed to the top of my head to make a point before setting him down and getting up to go to my room in the attached house.
With a quiet sigh I grabbed my plastic cat ears that were situated on an elastic band. The inside of the ears was glued with a few small feathers, as black as the plastic of the ears themselves, and on the left one was an interestingly painted bell. It was almost like a black pearl to me.
I'd bought the ears at a convention when I was a freshmen in high school and while that was six years ago the ears were in excellent condition. They were something I was very proud of, along with my Death Note Wall scroll.
My Light Yagami plush was something that I wasn't so proud of though. I had wanted an L plush but they ran out on the last day of the convention but I'd promised myself I'd get a plush.
I ended up getting Light and he has been used as a football many times since then. He's even been thrown in a microwave! I'm surprised that thing is still intact actually. I would have thought that the apple in his hand would have fallen off that first day when the L cosplayer my friend and I were hanging around with most of the time bit onto it and ran off.
Seriously it should have been ripped off when I yanked the mound of felt and stuffing out of the other cosplayer's teeth.
I shook my head to bring myself out of my thoughts and smiled before putting the ears on and adjusting them so that they looked close enough to the right position for cat ears. Once I finished with that I hurried downstairs and grabbed my jacket as I headed out the door close behind the kids, being sure to close the door behind us.
As soon as Arthur noticed my presence he ran over to me and gave me a hug. I giggled and pat his head before giving a short meow just to make him happy. A few of the other children squealed and ran over to me so I knelt down and let them act like they were petting my head. I even made small purring noises making them giggle again.
After a minute we got up because I had to take care of one of the strollers full of the youngest set of kids.
There were about eight of them and we had two strollers that had four seats, really that came in handy despite them being hard to turn.
As we started walking the kids started getting excited, not only because we were nearing the park but there was also a large building that seemed to be an office building but we had heard a short time back heard that the building had been inhabited by some big shots getting ready to shot a new tv show.
Today there were many fancy cars parked outside, catching the attention of the kids. They "oohed" and "ahhhed" at the sight while some of the girls mumbled about handsome rich me. The boys were not guiltless in their fantasizing as there were mumbles about supermodels and pretty women.
I shook my head a little bit but didn't say anything. I'll let them think what they want. Let kids imaginations roam sometimes, it's good for them.
After we got to the park, Mother turned to me with a smile and her purse in hand.
"Darling will you look after the kids for a few minutes while I go do something?"
I blinked and gave her a suspicious look before nodding.
"Alright, just don't take too long."
Mother grinned and pat my head.
"Don't worry! I won't be long darling."
With that she waved and headed off in the direction of the building that I mentioned before.
I looked away from her retreating form and started watching the kids play while holding the youngest of the group. Xavier who is about nine months old now.
A tug on my black yoga pants made me look away from the kids on the playset into the bright green eyes of my little brother.
"Where did Mommy go?"
I smiled and ruffled his hair with the hand that I wasn't using to support Xavier.
"She didn't say but she did say she wouldn't be long okay?"
He nodded a little and I gently pushed him towards the playset.
"Now go on and play for a bit okay?"
He nodded again and ran off letting me watch everyone again.
I was almost positive that Mother had something up her sleeve but there's nothing I can do about it right now. I have no idea what she has planned so it would be kind of hard to stop it.
I sighed a little to myself and gave my attention back to the kids who were playing. Occasionally reminding some of the braver or more reckless ones to be careful.
It wouldn't always stop them from getting hurt but little scrapes and bruises you get from falling down are part of being a kid.
When I was a kid I constantly had bruises up and down my legs, cat scratches on my shoulder from holding kittens like babies, and occasionally scrapes from tripping.
I was a very clumsy child and I still trip over my own feet sometimes.
As long as small cuts and scrapes were taken care of enough to keep them from getting infected then they would be fine.
I smiled a bit to myself as I watched the older kids play, stopping only to pick up a fussing toddler who had tripped in the grass. Mother would be back before long and until them I had to keep track of all of the kids.
That was something that I could do for a while but my attention span wasn't quite up to the task of keeping an eye on all of the children in my mother's daycare. It would only be a matter of time before I got distracted.
However I got fairly lucky and Mother came back before too long. I was made suspicious of what she did once again by the grin on her face. She seemed very happy and proud of herself.
"What did you do?"
She looked at me as if she didn't know what I was talking about.
"What are you talking about? I simply went to go take care of some errands."
She smiled and took the toddler that I was holding from me. I shook my head causing the bell on my cat ears to jingle a little bit.
What Mother did without me was really none of my business. It was hers and hers alone.
Instead of bothering to ask any more questions I simply turned my attention to the one year old that tugged at my pant leg. I lifted up the little red head and smiled at him.
As normal it wasn't long before we packed up our group of kids and started heading back, once again passing the building as we walked.
(A week or so later)
Sebastian POV:
It hasn't been long since the ad for an actress was put out and we had ended up swarmed in wannabe stars. Of course Ciel and I were very involved as they tried to find someone who would get along well with him and didn't "mind me" as they put it.
So far Ciel had not gotten along with a single one of the women and refused to work with them, he can be rather spoiled at times I guess.
There was also the fact that a majority of the girls were more occupied with trying to hang all over me than to pay attention to anything else. I'll admit that normally I wouldn't mind that too much but it was starting to get annoying.
I sighed to myself as the last of the actresses left for the day with the normal line of "we'll call you if you get the part."
The writer and director had disappeared right after the last actress left leaving my brother and me alone.
"You don't seem to like any of these girls."
I yawned a bit as I spoke.
Ciel looked up from his DS and shrugged.
"They're not interesting or anything. Plus I doubt any of them would remember their lines because they would be too busy trying to get you to sleep with them."
I chuckled a bit and messed up his hair earning a bit of a glare before he went back to his pokemon game.
He might be right about the whole "not remembering their lines" thing because after a while when he started playing games and ignoring the girls none of them had tried to get his attention. They all focused on me.
This thought caused me to sigh a bit. Those girls would also be too easy to mess with. I would want a bit of a challenge.
After a short period of silence the writer and director came back in the room, dressed as if they were ready to head out somewhere.
"Get ready to go out boys!"
Ciel didn't look up from his game.
"Where are we going?"
"We've got another audition but this one is a bit of a surprise."
With a sigh both of us got up and headed out to the cars. We didn't travel long in the car though because the house we seemed to be going to wasn't that far from our studio.
In front of the house was a sign saying "Mrs. Anna's Daycare" the majority of the yard was fenced in and filled with outdoor toys for children.
I rose an eyebrow and looked over at the director. He just smiled and headed toward the house.
"They're expecting us."
Ciel and I followed him silently and looked around. We didn't head for the gate and instead headed for the door on the other side. My eyes fell on a sloppily painted dog house and I narrowed my eyes a bit.
"Great, a dog."
However no barking started as we got closer. Instead fluffy calico cat poked their head out of the entrance to the dog house. The writer laughed a little while I stopped walking for a second.
"Doesn't look much like a dog to me."
I rolled my eyes and knelt down to hold my hand out to the cat. It sniffed the offered appendage before rubbing its head against it. With a smile I started to scratch its ears and noticed the collar around its neck.
There were a few tags on the collar and I finally found the cat's name.
"Roxy, that's a nice name."
The cat, now known as Roxy, meowed as if in response to me before turning to walk away. Ciel sighed loudly and crossed his arms.
"Get up you idiot, we're supposed to be meeting someone."
I rolled my eyes again and got up.
"Alright hold your horses will you?"
When I got up all four of us headed up to the door where the director knocked and waited for a bit.
From far inside the house we could hear the shout of "I'm coming." It was obviously a woman's voice so both Ciel and I looked at the writer and director suspiciously, this was going to be another audition wasn't it?
Ciel sighed a bit.
"I'm glad that I brought my DS with me."
"Oh come on Ciel, you've got to be social with the other actors sometime!"
My brother rose an eyebrow.
"They'll talk to me if they want anything to do with me."
I nodded in agreement with him just before the door opened.
The woman who opened the door was a middle aged blonde with green eyes, not unlike one of our costars. There was a big smile on her face and she wiped her hands on the plain white apron that she was wearing.
"You guys are already here! Goodness that was fast."
She shook the hands of both the director and the writer before turning her attention to my brother and me.
"Hello ma'am, it's nice to meet you. I'm Sebastian Michaelis, and this is Ciel Phantomhive." I put a hand on my brother's head.
The younger boy had his hands in his pockets, no doubt on his DS and ready to pull it out and start playing a game the minute we were invited inside.
The woman in front of us kept smiling and nodded.
"It's nice to meet you both, I'm Anna Silver. Why don't all of you come in?"
All four of us headed inside to see a fairly nice decorated home, obviously kids weren't often here however it seemed that Anna did have them up here sometimes if the toys on the floor were anything to go by.
"You guys are lucky that I don't have any kids but my own today. Take a seat if you would like."
She pointed at a comfy looking couch which we all sat down on happily. Ciel being the first and pulling his DS out of his pocket as he did.
"You all wait right here and I'll be right back."
The blonde left and I turned my attention back to the older men on the couch.
"What are we doing here?"
The director just kept smiling.
"Well considering that we didn't find any applicants that would work in the past few days, this kind woman put in an application for her daughter and I thought we could give her a chance."
Ciel rolled his eyes.
"Great."
It wasn't long before we heard the woman, Anna, speaking again. This time there was another woman speaking to her.
"Why would you do that Mom?"
"Oh sweetie I thought that you would enjoy it, you like acting for the kids."
"That's kids and not an audience all over the world!"
"You've been in plays before, it's not that much different!"
The voices stopped for a minute before we caught sight of the blonde again. There was another woman behind her with her arms crossed and looking a bit annoyed.
The younger looking woman had black hair pulled back into a low ponytail and she was a bit shorter than the blonde woman. She looked to be a teenager and at the moment seemed a bit annoyed.
"Sorry we took so long!"
The writer smiled and waved his hand dismissively.
"It's fine really, is this your daughter?"
Anna smiled and nodded before putting a hand on the girl's back and pushing her forward. My eye twitched lightly at the clothes she was wearing. A white sweater that sparkled a bit and had pink circles arranged in a way to end up looking like Hello Kitty.
How childish.
"Yes this is her."
The girl sighed a bit and seemed to bite her lip.
"Hello, I'm Melody and it's nice to meet you."
She shyly stuck out her hand and the writer gently shook it.
"It's nice to meet you too, Ms. Melody."
She blinked and glanced away.
"Uh, just Melody is fine."
The writer nodded a bit and sat back down.
"Do you mind if we talk to you for a bit?"
She shook her head and sat down on the floor a bit in front of the couch.
"Alright, so the application your mother gave us says that you are 19 years old. Is that correct?"
Melody nodded.
"Yes I'm 19 and will turn 20 on July 29th."
"Do you have any acting experience?"
Her fingers twitched and pulled on the sleeves of her sweater. How is this girl 19? She's sitting on the floor like a child.
"Well I wouldn't say that I really do. I mean I was in school plays and all and I do act when I play games with the kids in the daycare."
I was kind of interested in the fact that she hadn't seemed to notice my brother and me but she seemed to be avoiding eye contact with any of us.
The director nodded a bit at her and smiled gently.
"Do you think you could read something for us?"
He handed a short piece of the script to her and I watched as she read it over once before she started mouthing it to herself.
The director interrupted her train of thought when he spoke.
"Do you think you could read it in a British accent?"
The girl blinked and nodded a bit to herself before starting to mumble. Her mother was standing off to the side with a smile still painted on her face.
"Young Master, are you sure that you're alright? I don't mean to underestimate you but… I worry…"
She pushed the longer strands of hair behind her ear and looked up shyly.
The director smiled and nodded.
"Your shy voice fit that line well too, it was sweet."
The writer nodded in agreement, smiling as well before both of them looked at Ciel and me.
I shrugged a bit before speaking for the first time since the girl had been introduced.
"It wasn't that bad but don't you think it was a little too shy?"
The girl looked at me and blinked.
Here we go again, another admirer.
Director shook his head.
"Not at all. She could be a sweet little thing when it comes to taking care of someone she cares about but if someone is threatened she could be darker."
I shrugged a bit and looked back over to the girl again when she spoke.
"Um, I'm sorry to ask but what would I be playing?"
Writer blinked a bit and chuckled.
"I'm sorry we didn't tell you. You would be playing a female demon who becomes a maid for a young nobleman, played by this young man here."
He gestured to Ciel making the girl's attention go to him where it stayed for a bit.
"And you would end up being in a relationship with the other demon butler of the household, played by this man here."
He placed a hand on my back.
The girl seemed to be thinking for a second before speaking again.
"What kind of demon would I be?"
Director chuckled a bit.
"We'll you would be a neko which is-"
The girl cut him off.
"A cat. I'm sorry for interrupting you but I do know what it is. With the cat ears and tail."
She put her hands up to her head as if she had ears there.
Director nods a bit while still smiling.
"That's right, very good."
She smiled back a bit and looked at Ciel again.
"Now all that's left is to see how well you get along with your possible costars."
She smiled back and nodded.
"So um… What are you playing, uh… Ciel?"
Both of us were a bit shocked, this girl hadn't said a word to me.
Ciel looked up a bit confused.
"Uh… Pokemon…"
The girl smiled a bit more.
"Which one?"
Her eyes seemed to have lit up a bit and she leaned forward onto her hands.
My brother glanced at me before looking back at her.
"X version."
"Really, do you have Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire too?"
Ciel lowered his DS and nodded a little.
The girl grinned and jumped up.
"I'll be right back!"
With that she took off into another room while her mother laughed lightly. Ciel and I watched confused as the girl came running back with a blue DS in hand. It, just like her clothes, was childish. It was personalized with a butterfly sticker, a rainbow, and a frog. Hanging from the corners were tow little cellphone charms one being of Hello Kitty, just like her sweater, and the other a Winnie the Pooh.
Childish.
"What's your friend code?"
Her eyes were still lit up as she smiled excitedly.
Ciel leaned back a bit and she backed up a little as well.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you, it's just been a while since I've met people who play the same games as me…"
She looked down at the gaming device in her hands.
Ciel looked at her and relaxed a little.
"What games do you have?"
She smiled again and started thinking.
"Some of them I have are pretty old and a lot of them were gifts but uh…"
She paused again, she didn't seem to care about anyone else in the room at the moment.
"Oh I'll go get my games real quick okay?"
Ciel nods a bit and she runs off.
"You seem to be getting along well with her."
Writer spoke up catching our attention.
Ciel looked at him and nodded a little bit.
"She's not paying attention to him."
I shrugged a bit but agreed. Nothing else could be said before the girl came running back with a bag in hand.
"Alright so I have a few, I would have more if they hadn't been stolen on Christmas a few years ago."
She pulled a red game case out of her bag and opened it.
"In here is the Rabids Travel in Time game that my grandma gave me and my only Kingdom Hearts game. Kingdom Hearts Re:coded."
She closed the case and put it down on the floor beside her. This girl cannot be as old as she said she is.
The next case she pulled out was a light pink one.
"This one has a few older games in it. Ninja Town, Hidden Mysteries Buckingham Palace, Viva Piniata, and World of Zoo."
She had to arrange the games as she listed them off before closing the case and setting it with the other case. I rolled my eyes a little bit but kept watching her interact with my brother. None of the others had been so interested in what he had to say or what he was doing.
The boy nodded a little bit and watched her pull out another case, it was red just like the first one.
"Alright, so in here I have my Pokemon Omega Ruby, Pokemon X, Pokemon Soul Silver, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity."
I rose an eyebrow, that's a lot of Pokemon.
That case went with the others and she reached into her bag again. How many games does she have?
This time it was a long, blue case that she pulled out.
"These ones are old too… I guess I won't bother you with them… Though I feel bad for not playing Purr Pals or Petz Catz Clan in a while…"
The next case was a Hello Kitty one which made me sigh.
"This one has Pokemon Y, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Black Version 2, and Tomodachi Life. Then in my DS right now I have Animal Crossing New Leaf."
She blinks and looks up at all of us before her cheeks turn a light pink and she looks down again.
"Sorry for rambling…"
Ciel shrugged.
"Don't be, I'll exchange friend codes with you."
The two of them did whatever it took to exchange friend codes and the girl grinned.
"Thank you."
Writer nodded a bit and chuckled.
"You seem to get along well with Ciel."
The boy nodded a bit in agreement while I chuckled.
"You seem to like games."
Her attention turned to me and she nodded a little bit.
"Yes."
I put my arm around Ciel's back over the back of the couch.
"Whose cat is that outside?"
She blinked and didn't speak for a minute but finally smiled again.
"She's my cat, Roxy. She showed up years ago while I was still in school and we've been taking care of her. My dad, little brother, and I all made that house for her. Well Dad and I built it and then Arthur and I painted it."
I nodded a bit, so she likes cats.
After a while the director and writer decided that it was about time to leave, they even told Melody to look out for a phone call from them once they came up with more lines for her to try.
I rolled my eyes and followed them out, giving the mother a fake smile that she didn't seem to notice was fake.
Was I going to have to work with this child?

End Author's note: so I decided to rewrite this and ended up with something quite a bit different from the original chapter. Of course I paid attention to the old chapter but I came up with this.
I'm thinking that I am going to do the same for His Kitten too. There's a poll up on my profile about it if you want to do that. But that means that I'm going to end up with something much different from what I have. It has just been a though that has been in my mind for a month or so now.
By the way, Melody's reaction to Ciel's interest in video games was what mine might be but she was more outgoing about it.
I do not own Black Butler, Nintendo DS, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life, or any other video game listed here. Well I mean that I do own them just not the rights to them and if you wish for my friend code then just PM me.
