Those words were spoken by a stranger's voice that had the ghost of my most beloved etched on its visage. The heat-induced voice that called for me that warm day – that voice that destroyed the gallows and removed my neck from within the noose-rope of the plague we often know as boredom – had vanished beneath a fathomless ocean of ice.
The melody of the phoenix that led to my salvation was hauled into the depths of a maelstrom of nothing but a shrill cry.
Then I realized: my phoenix had been devoid of its ability to conjure that warm melody.
