Knock Knock
Sora was late.
Kairi knocked on the front door, blowing her hair out of her face. The twelve year old waited patiently for someone to answer, leaning over to try to see in the window. She straightened when she saw a blurry figure approach.
"Good morning, Kairi." Sora's mother smiled down at her.
"Hi." She chirped in reply. "Is Sora here? He was supposed to meet us down at the pier like an hour ago." She gestured back to Riku, who was leaning against the fence. The boy raised a hand in greeting to the woman as she looked up.
"He's upstairs." She stood aside to allow Kairi entry. "I told him he was going to be late." She huffed, exasperated. "Just go on up. He should be about ready to leave anyway."
"Thanks." Kairi took the stairs, leaving Sora's mother at the bottom.
Knowing the house as well as she knew her own, Kairi made a beeline for Sora's room. Without a second thought, she pushed the slightly ajar door all the way open, folding her arms. "You're late." She complained. "Riku and I have been waiting—" she cut off, her eyes widening at the sight in front of her.
Sora stood, shocked into stillness, half-naked in the middle of his room. Against her better judgment, Kairi's eyes were drawn almost immediately to the boxers half covered by the shorts he was in the middle of pulling on—puppies chasing love hearts were stamped all over the light blue fabric.
Kairi clapped her hand to her mouth, feeling her cheeks flood with a blush. "I'll—I'll wait with Riku outside." She choked over her own mortification, giggling as she pulled the door closed and headed for the front door.
"What happened?" Riku asked when Kairi emerged, still giggling into her hand and pink in the face. She shook her head, knowing that Riku would pay them both out over what just happened.
When Sora finally made it downstairs, he was even redder than Kairi, and refused to look either of them in the face. But, despite Riku's continued prodding, neither of them would tell him what happened.
They always knocked after that.
