Hikaru stood for a moment in the doorway, looking into the quiet room. He noticed the legs of his identical brother, hanging off the arm of the sofa. An arm was lifted in the air, swaying in a bemused manner to the rhythm and tune of the calm song. Hikaru entered the room, shutting the door quietly. He walked towards Kaoru calmly and as he approached, he noticed Kaoru was listening to music, eyes closed. Hikaru smiled quietly at the image of his brother.

Hikaru lifted his own arm and took hold of Kaoru's. Kaoru gave Hikaru's hand a squeeze. Without opening his eyes, he could tell that it was Hikaru's. An identical part of him that reached out to him in times of need. Kaoru opened his eyes and looked at Hikaru. After a moment, he took a headphone out and spoke. "I'm sorry I left you alone at school," he said honestly, "but I wanted some time to make you a card."

"A card for what?" Hikaru asked in a confused manner and a questionable look. "What's so special that you took the day off school and left me all alone?" Hikaru growled in slight anger. He would probably completely forget the problem tomorrow, but it meant a lot to him today. Hikaru hated being at school without Kaoru around. It was always boring and he always felt bad that his brother was as lonely as he was. The majority of sick days Kaoru took, Hikaru had stayed home as well. However, today, Kaoru had asked for privacy.

"It's our birthday," Kaoru smiled as he reached to the side table and pulled a hand made card from the draw. It was small, but it was extensively decorated with glitter and confetti.

Hikaru smiled, "aww, Kaoru, you didn't have to." He then smiled apologetically, "I completely forgot to get you anything," he looked guiltily at his feet and his smile feel into a frown. "I'm sorry; I'll make it up to you." He reached out and hugged Kaoru.

Kaoru hugged back and smiled into his brother's shoulder, "Don't worry about it, it's the thought that counts." He pulled back and reached into the draw again, pulling out a hastily wrapped gift. "I also got you this, I know it's lame and cliché, but I knew you'd forget and we can share this." He smiled as Hikaru carefully began to un-wrap the hand made paper.

Hikaru smiled as he pulled out a jewelry box and opened it to see two pendants. One saying best and the other say friends. "You're right," he said as he tied a chain around Kaoru's neck, "This is rather lame…"
