"Now, I need a volunteer to cause a distraction during roll call tonight to cover Carter if he's not back by then."
As Hogan spoke he walked behind Newkirk, who was sitting at the table in the middle of the barracks, and put his hands on the Englishman's shoulders. Then he leaned forward until his forearms were resting on Newkirk's shoulders and he put his leg up on the bench next to Newkirk.
"I do make a wonderful volunteer," the magician said sarcastically.
Hogan grinned and patted Newkirk's chest, "I knew I could count on you."
Newkirk rolled his eyes. "'Corse sir. Reliable as a good 'orse I am." He grinned at the Colonel.
"A horse with rabies," LeBeau teased.
Newkirk opened his mouth to reply, but Hogan quickly covered it with his hand, stopping one of Newkirk and LeBeau's infamous 'Banter Battles' before it got a chance to start, though Newkirk still mumbled something through his CO's hand.
"Kinch," Hogan said, still holding his hand over Newkirk's mouth, just in case, "Go and radio Lond-"
Suddenly, the door burst open and a short stream of men were pushed into the barracks, followed by a red-faced Sergeant Schultz yelling, "Everybody in! Confined to barracks until further notice! Orders of the Kommandant!"
As the men quieted down Schultz turned to leave, but he paused when he noticed Colonel Hogan holding his hand over the Englander's mouth.
"Colonel Hogan?" he said slowly.
"Schultz?" Hogan returned.
"What are you doing to Newkirk?"
"Silent Treatment," Hogan said simply.
LeBeau and Kinch exchanged a look while Newkirk sat there looking bored.
"Oh," Schultz said. Then he paused. "Huh?"
"The silent treatment Schultz! You mean to tell me you've never heard of the silent treatment?" Hogan said, sounding shocked.
"No I have not," Schultz said shortly, then he leaned forward, "What is it?"
Hogan opened his mouth to reply.
"No! Nevermind. Don't tell me. I don't want to know!"
The prisoners grinned as Schultz turned to leave.
He opened the door to see Klink walking nearby. He turned quickly and shouted at the men.
"And stay in there!"
Then he slammed the door behind him.
Hogan removed his hand from its place on Newkirk's face and leaned back against the nearby bunk.
"So it there something specific you want me to do Colonel?" Newkirk asked.
When he got no reply he turned to look behind him. Hogan was grinning, his eyes sparkling mischievously.
Newkirk glared as he caught on.
"Alright then, LeBeau, Kinch, what do you think the Colonel wants me to do?"
There was no reply from either of the two men, they just smiled.
Then the trapdoor beneath Kinch's bunk opened up and Carter popped out of the tunnel.
"Hey guys, what's goin' on?" he asked.
Newkirk went to stand by his friend.
"They're giving me the bloody silent treatment!"
