A/N: A short JennyxJulian fic, please review and comment as I have had a horrible week and would. So review and I will do the same for you in return.
Jenny looked at the clock anxiously. It still read 12:23 am, and Jenny wondered how she was ever going to fall asleep. The day had passed slowly; full of confusion and thoughts and angry parents (hers) and joyful parents (Summer's). It was all she could do not to think of him, her Shadow Man, because then she would start to cry. Everything she did now, everything she saw, everything she read, reminded her of him.
Even simple colors reduced her to a babbling, tearful mess.
Like today, when she arrived back home from Pennsylvania, even after Audrey and Mike and Dee and Tom tried so hard not to say anything to upset her, she walked into her room.
Her eyes were immediately drawn to her desk, where a sheet of notebook paper for history notes laid face up. On it she had doodled simple hearts and stars in blue pen. But when she looked and the doodles sideways, with the light from the window shining upon them, the drawings turned to a beautiful, indescribable blue. The perfects shade. His eyes.
Or this evening, when she outside on the sidewalk stroking Cosette, and a stray shadow passed by the corner of her eye. She turned quickly, her breath caught, hoping with all of her soul that it was him. It was just a car.
Jenny knew she could not live like this, could not bear knowing that he was gone. Now, all she had left of him, her sweet Julian, was her ring. The lovers token he had given to her in the first game. She would never remove it from her finger. It now had a special place on her left hand, where it would always reside. That was all she had left of him. He, her savior, her protector, her forever-gone lover.
Jenny pressed her forehead against the pillows, wishing sleep would come. Finally, she gave in. She let thoughts of him trickle slowly into her mind, then faster, like the water at the mine, until her head was filled with images of him, her Julian.
Jenny fell fast asleep.
And even though Julian was gone now, gone forever from the shadows at her bedside, a comforting spot still lingered there, as if, in his memory, the shadows still had a place for him. Just like the place in her heart that would never be filled again.
