Disclaimer: I do not own Fullmetal Alchemist! I do, however, own Salem.
The Mirage Alchemist looked around her lab.
"Hmm…" Mikellea stared at the book in front of her. "The Sewing Life Alchemist made making these chimeras look so simple…"
Noise arose from the next room, and she slammed her fist into the wall. Silence fell once more.
"Wolves," she scoffed. "The make brilliant generals, but… They just offer too much resistance towards the prisoners…"
Mikellea stood and headed through a door. She walked past cages lining the walls, each housing a half-human, half-beast chimera. She made her way to the opposite end of the room and stopped an arm's length away from one small, iron-barred cage.
"Hello, State Alchemist… Would you like to come play with Mommy today?" she asked the creature.
A low growl arose from the back of the cage, accompanied by a pair of gleaming, amber-tinted emerald eyes. A small girl stepped forward, her long blonde hair falling into her eyes. Two black wolf ears sat perched atop the girl's head, matching the black tail curled around her waist over her belt. She wore a black sleeveless shirt, black pants, and fingerless black gloves, and a small velvet bag and pocket watch dangled from her belt.
"Good girl," Mikellea said as she opened the door. The chimera-girl's ears flattened and her eyes widened. She was letting her out?
"Yes, Salem, I'm letting you out of your cage. I want you to play with a friend." Mikellea smiled as the chimera stepped from her prison. The Mirage stepped back into the center of a transmutation circle, keeping her gaze on the girl.
Salem's eyes widened, and her ears flattened.
"Wh…What is that...?"
Mikellea raised her eyebrows. "You know you can't speak anymore. It all comes out as barks and whimpers."
They both focused on a much larger cage—about 5 times the size of Salem's—, which housed a thrashing chimera. There was a loud hiss, followed by a CRACK much like a whip. Salem let out a low growl as her tail bristled; Mikellea clapped her hands together.
"Scorp is perfect!" Mikellea said, walking towards the cage.
"You want me to 'play' with that?" Salem whimpered.
The Mirage Alchemist ignored her, already unlocking the cage door. "Come outside, Scorp," she said in a singsong voice with a smile.
The creature cracked his venomous tail again like a whip. A low rumble arose as he considered Mikellea's offer of freedom. Scorp slowly moved from his cage, and Salem's eyes widened in fear as the hulking figure came into the light. The cries of the other chimeras fell short as they all realized why he had the name "Scorp." Besides, being the first of their kind—a failed attempt at that, with the brain damage he suffered and the skeletal mutations in his form—Mikellea fused this poor creature long ago with a scorpion.
