Today was the best day in the history of the planet.
It outweighed the Big Bang, the merging of vague space particles to make a planet, the evolution of human life, the development of technology, and the inventing of the telescope.
Because all of those days were utterly insignificant and frankly, quite boring, in comparison to this paramount turning point in this generation's lifetime.
Sora had a car.
And it was amazing.
So amazing, in fact, that Sora woke Riku up before noon on a Saturday (which was surely breaking one of the commandments of their established friendship) so Riku could see it.
Now, on this day, Kairi had decided to wake up early and work together with Naminé to bake some kind of celebration confection for this grand occasion. Though poor Naminé ended up doing a lot of the work and putting up with Kairi's screw-ups because the redhead failed cooking so badly she had to take Home Economics twice before she finally passed on the third go-around.
One would probably wonder why another teenager getting another sporty car to wreck was such a big deal, but this was Sora. Sora who failed the driving test more times than Riku slept through the SATs, Sora who had managed to wrap the class car around a telephone pole when the closest pole was outside the fenced-in testing area, Sora whose sweet sixteen birthday present was the money to pay for driving classes again. So when the planets finally aligned to give him amazing driving skills and a license to go with them, naturally, he finally received the gift his heart had desired since he was a small child.
A beautiful, beautiful cherry-burgundy sports car.
Which, currently, he was babbling to his bestest buddy Riku about on the way to his house to see the car; Sora hadn't driven it over because, frankly, he was petrified that he would destroy it in some horrible wreck and Riku would never get to see it.
"You should see the paint job! She's like, freaking Queen-of-England-red, all dark and royal-looking…" the brunet started energetically as they came up on Sora's driveway. "And augh it's the coolest color ever, like dark cherries--" About halfway down the driveway, the newly-licensed adolescent failed to notice that he had a familiar visitor at the side gate, so he just continued. "--and then she has the freaking curviest body and she's all smooth and pretty, almost dainty, but still dangerous, you can just tell, and when you start her up she runs fast, and quiet too; and she's so sporty and amazing and her name is Kairi, don't you think it fits?"
A pause as Sora finally noticed the strained amusement on Riku's face, and the brownie frowned. "What's wrong?"
The older teen nodded towards the gate along the wooden fence, where a certain girl had been standing frozen since about the "coolest color ever" part. Her hand was tense, knuckles white, on the plate of cookies and her face was almost as red as her hair.
Sora looked quite confused, honestly, and for a while just stared stupidly at Riku before finally the silver-haired teen decided to chime in, "Hi, Kairi."
"K-Kairi?!" the other male said, whirling quickly to the sight of his friend gripping the cookie plate ever-tighter, and the embarrassed expression on her face slowly morphing to one of humiliated nervousness.
"…I'll just come back later, don't worry, I didn't hear anything…!" Kairi said with a sheepish laugh, approaching Riku to hand him the cookies before booking it across the yard, presumably back to her house to ponder her discovery.
And while the elder of the two was laughing with uncontrolled entertainment, Sora was staring at the gate, awe-struck at how utterly horrible his timing was. "K-Kairi!" He called after her soon before starting off at a run in her direction. "I-I can explain…!"
It took a full ten minutes, but Riku's laughs finally calmed enough for him to speak.
"Maybe now he can finally take her on a ride…"
