I take it right when Neji, Lee, Guy and Tenten found Hinata during Pain's attack on Konohagakure. At that time, Hinata was fatally injured after trying to save Naruto. It randomly pops in my head so it's kinda weird. But I still want to write it nonetheless.
Neji can't believe his eyes. Hinata has suffered a great damage to her body, thanks to her reckless action. Thank goodness Sakura is there and immediately heals her. But what ticks him off more is what, or rather whom that drives her to do so. Naruto. That guy always gets in the way. It hurts his pride to say this, but lately, he realizes that he has started to develop feelings towards Hinata. It all started during the Chunnin Exam; more specifically, while he was fighting against her. That was the first time his eyes saw the true Hinata, the Hinata that was shoved inside the coward and loser Hinata. And that Hinata had charmed him. When Hinata was carried into the emergency room, it was also the first time he experienced guilt. But then his ego was still intact and he acted all mighty when the truth was he's dying to drop down on his knees and bawl like a child. However, now that his relationship with Hinata has gotten a lot better and his chance to confess is right in front of his eyes, at the same time Hinata is head over heels in love with Naruto. Neji sighs and vows that he will do something about this. Right then, Hinata gains consciousness and Neji feels a great sense of relief.
"Hinata-sama, are you okay?" he asks.
"Yeah."
She starts to sit up straight and looks around.
"Where's Naruto?"
Neji balls his fist and grits his teeth. He is starting to get irritated. It is just like Naruto to infuriate him even though he's not here. Yes, he likes Naruto and treasures him as a friend, but in love, he will not back off.
Naruto, I will not lose to you.
