AN: Gah. I say I won't write anything and that's when all my inspiration hits…
Summary: No matter what she says, she's only upset because there was nothing to fix. Almost inosaku, if you squint.
Disclaimer: I don't own.
That Which Isn't Broken Cannot Be Fixed
The minute Ino hears that Sasuke's run away from Konohagakure, she smiles. She's unsure why because she's pretty confident that she loves him.
The minute she hears that Sakura tried to stop him, that's when she gets worried. Where is she? How is she?
Is she upset?
Ino doesn't know why she's suddenly worried about her pink haired rival, but it doesn't matter. All she wants to do right now is see Sakura.
As she runs to the other girl's house, she contemplates.
If she's upset, Ino could console her and maybe this whole mess could be put behind them and they could be friends again.
Or, she could destroy the other girl's spirit when she's at her most vulnerable, and then Sasuke is all hers.
The second idea disturbs her, and she shivers.
But when she reaches Sakura's home, it turns out she isn't there. She's apparently gone to see the Godaime Hokage. And so Ino turns and runs towards the tower, once more finding herself deep in thought.
If she comforts the other girl in her time of need, then maybe Sasuke will all but disappear from Sakura's mind and all her attention will be on Ino.
The very idea makes her smile.
But when she reaches the tower, and runs up the stairs to the Godaime's office, she finds Sakura walking down, and look of determination on her face. Their eyes meet and the pair stop. Ino finds she can't look away from Sakura's startlingly green orbs.
Sakura smiles, but it looks almost like a grimace.
"Come to gloat, Ino?" the blonde doesn't answer for a minute, barely comprehending the question.
"What do you mean?" she finally says. Sakura laughs.
"About how I couldn't stop Sasuke from leaving. Or are you going to yell at me, ask me why the hell I didn't stop him?" her eyes narrow and Ino almost takes a step back.
"N-no! I…I wanted to make sure you were…okay…" Ino stammers out, feeling completely stupid. Her eyes look away from Sakura, and she doesn't notice Sakura's features soften slightly, and that there is a small smile on the girl's face.
"I'm fine, Ino. Don't worry about me!" she grins, before heading off. Ino smiles faintly as she stares at the other girl's back, and she can't help but feel sad that Sakura is happy, that she isn't completely broken by it all.
Ino doesn't have anything to fix now.
