Massie Block smiled slyly as she sprayed more whipped cream onto her chocolate sundae.
The white oozing substance piled quickly on the cold dessert drenched with dark chocolate syrup.

Her school's cafeteria already had long red streams lacing through the large room.
There were red cut out hearts taped onto the windows, ready to celebrate February 14.

Valentine's Day.

She was taking a spoonful of her yummy dessert into her mouth, when Josh Hotz entered the room with his girlfriend, Olivia Ryan.

Massie's amber eyes met Josh's dark ones and he smiled a small smile, one that was almost invisble on his perfect face.
She started to smile back, then abruptly stopped as Olivia glanced her way with a smile.

Massie frowned as Josh held Olivia's hand tighter.

Massie watched them as they took their seats next to Chris Plovert, who was playing with a pair of plastic hand cuffs.
They both sat down, Olivia placed nicely on Josh's lap.

Massie continued to stare at them with envy.

She was supposed to be the girl on Josh's lap.

She was the girl who was supposed to make everyone jealous by holding his hand.

She was supposed to be Josh's.

But no,

Massie was only the girl Josh went to for homework help.
She was the girl Josh went to when he needed to copy notes for the science test that was needed to be taken the next day.
She was the girl Josh would make feel special,
feel pretty,
hug,
kiss,
laughed with,
but only in secret, when no one else was watching.

Massie stared at the overly large gold Rolex watch for men she wears around her slender wrist.

A small crack was dented into the firm glass.

Suddenly the hands on the watch stopped moving.

Josh gave her that watch after he kissed her, after he whispered things that made her feel beautiful, special, and different.

He probably whispered those things to Olivia Ryan on a daily basis.

finished.
