Chapter 1

"Zeussy~" A singsong voice echoed off the halls of Zeus' castle. The king of the angels gripped end of his armrest tightly. "You're a liar. You said that our punishment wouldn't hurt us. Did you know this would happen?"

"You are sinful." Zeus narrowed his eyes at his invisible enemy. "You don't deserve mercy. You're punishment was well deserved."

Laughter broke out in the hall. It was different-less restrained and more hostile. He remembered this one.

"Well deserved he says." A new voice said. There was more laughter. "Our suffering was well deserved for the punishment of having a differing opinion!"

"Going against me is blasphemy. I created you."

"I suppose you did." A shadow seemed to grow on the wall. It took the shape of a lizard and moved to the edge of the room. "But if you'd explained why we were wrong-"

"He's just going to say it was what he wanted." Another voice snapped. "Zeussy's never been the best at coming up with logical explanations. He is imperfect. Flawed."

"Silence you demons!" Zeus stood. "Begone from here!" He waved his hand and a bright light envelopes the room. Three voices cursed the deity before being silenced.

They shouldn't have had enough power to revive themselves...Zeus covered his eyes and thought. Is there a traitor in Heaven? He stood and walked to the door. He needed his beasts to remove the problem.

It had only been a few days after Yuda and Ruka were deemed healthy enough to begin training again when the six Saint Beasts were summoned. They kneeled and did their best to hide their displeasure. In front of Zeus Yuda kept his head lowered so as to not give away his irritation. While he and Ruka had been bedridden more angels had been purged. Innocent angels that had put a toe out of line were lost to the forest of Darkness. Everyday it seemed like the number was growing. There was a dissent that Zeus seemed to ignore.

"They are not like any enemy you have faced." Zeus said. "They are fallen angels who steal the souls of both angels and demons to sustain themselves. They are currently strong enough to invade this palace. Though my powers have banished them from this place, they are most likely still in heaven. They need hosts in order to use their powers."

"Hm~" A singsong voice interrupted. "There's a few things I would object to with that information." The room seemed to darken. Two figures peeked out from behind Zeus' throne. "First of all, the old man here just kicked us out of his house. He didn't really banish us from it."

"And we don't steal souls to 'sustain ourselves' as you put it." The other figure said. "You shouldn't lie about stuff like this."

"Anyway. We just came here to make this game a challenge." One figure jumped out and walked up to the now standing and on guard Beasts. "Relax. I'm not going to attack you. My title is the monkey. That one over there," the monkey pointed over the other figure. "Is the Lizard. There's around six of us in total. And we'll be in the human area for a little bit."

"Why are you telling us this?" Yuda asked. He prepared for an attack, but all the monkey did was sigh in annoyance.

"I already told you we're not looking for a fight." Monkey rolled his eyes. "It just makes the whole game more interesting for us."

"Game?"

"We are bored. We have been imprisoned for millennia, yet remained aware of changes in the world. While we do wish to fight you, we know all about you." Lizard explained. "This evens the playing field slightly." Lizard turned to his partner. "We have wasted enough time here. We're leaving, Monkey." Lizard walked into the shadows and vanished.

Monkey muttered something about a fun killer and walked into the shadows, his form looking like it was being ripped apart. The room began to lighten up again and the chill that appeared in the room slowly vanished.

Nobody noticed Zeus' eyes darken and his hands tighten into fists. Once again he'd been made a fool of by lesser beings and in front of his own Saint Beasts. He could already see Yuda and Ruka thinking about everything that had transpired. Soon they'd be questioning him.

"While you will most likely be playing into their hands, the best place to start will be the human world." Zeus said. "They have prisons that will have the most information on how they escaped their prison."

"Understood."

A/N: Hey guys! So as much as I liked writing Earthbound, my writing skills have improved since those days and I've developed the characters as I thought more about them. Because of that, Earthbound has to be changed in order to make these character developments happen. I hope you'll continue to support this story!

Anyway, please leave a review on your way out! I love to hear what you think!
