It was late at night when Detective Jane Rizzoli entered the silent house after a long day at work. She and Frost had been on stakeout nearly all day long but finally got the bad guy. That guy had killed three young woman just because they had reminded him of his cheating ex-girlfriend. Now he would spend the rest of his days in a small jail cell. That wouldn't bring back the dead girls but at least it would bring some closure to their families.
Now all she wanted to do was crawling in her bed and sleep because she was really tired. Making as little noise as possible she went to the door that led to the bedroom and was surprised to see a light through the crack of the door.
Was Maura still awake?
Jane opened the door carefully and peered inside.
Maura was half sitting in their bed with a book lying on her chest and she was fast asleep.
The detective couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face. It was a beautiful sight and her heart skipped a beat as it always did when she layed eyes on Dr. Maura Isles-Rizzoli. Her beautiful wife for almost three years now.
Automatically her eyes wandered down to Mauras belly where you could already see the first signs of the little life that grew inside. At the end of this year they would be parents and Jane couldn't wait to meet her son or daughter.
She didn't want to wake Maura up so Jane went to the guest bathroom to prepare herself for the night before she returned to the masterbedroom. She walked up to Mauras side of the bed so she could swith of the light but before she did that, she looked down at the sleeping beauty once more, thinking about how much she loved this woman. She would kill for this woman, hell, she would even die for her.
And that was when it hit Jane
She didn't know where it came from, but suddenly Jane felt some kind of fear.
She loved Maura but did she show her every day just how much she was in love with the ME?
What if she wouldn't come home tomorrow, would Maura know that she was Janes everything? The only one Jane wanted to spend the rest of her days with? Would the love she gave her in the past be enough to help Maura dealing with the fact that she had to face the world without Jane?
They had never really talked about the possibility of that but Jane had a dangerous job. She left the house every day without knowing if she would make it home at the evening. She had already faced death. More than once, actually.
Maybe one day she wouldn't be as lucky as before and then she wanted Maura to know that she was loved and would always be loved.
Deep in her thoughts, Jane turned out the light on the nightstand and went to her side of the bed. She crawled underneeth the sheets and looked up at the ceiling. She already had lost loved ones without really telling them how much she loved them. Her maternal grandmother for exampel. God, Jane had adored this woman and as a child she had told her grandmother many times, that she loved her. But then she became a teenager and she was to "cool" to say something like that. And then, when her grandmother died, all Jane had wanted to do was turning back the time just to be able to tell her granny how much she loved her.
So, in this moment, while lying in bed beside a sleeping Maura, Jane made a promise to herself. She would tell and show Maura every day that she was the love of her life so Maura would never have a reason to doubt that.
