Family is Family

Jay's POV

Flashback:

"Class, this is Jada Hart," Mrs. Meadows announced, much to my chagrin.

"Just Jay," I correctly quietly, shuffling to a seat in the back of the class. It wasn't until Mr. Matthews class that I had to talk.

"Would you like to tell us about yourself, Jay? Despite the fact that you're Maya's sister?"

"Little sister," Maya corrected arrogantly, grinning at Mr. Matthews and I. I resisted the urge to immaterially stick my tongue out at her.

"I'm from North Carolina...and I like art... Um..." I trailed of, desperate to be relieved of the humiliating situation. Mr. Matthews sensed my discomfort and sent me back to my seat, which was to the right of the "Huckleberry," as Maya had introduced. Maya gave me a quick, reassuring grin from her seat before returning back to her normally stoic, tough-girl look.

End flashback

Maya's POV

"Hurry it up, Jay, dad'll get mad at us if we're late for school," I shouted through the closed bathroom door. Jay came out, her face colored in dark make-up, glaring. She had on grey eyeshadow, black cat-eye eyeliner, plenty of mascara, foundation, and pale pink lipstick. A lot more than I would ever dare to wear. She was wearing a white lace button-up and skinny jeans.

"I'm comin' Maya, calm down," Jay drawled, rolling her eyes. Resisting the urge to strangle her, I told her I was going to the Mathews and she followed me out there door. We were just lucky that dad hasn't woke up yet.

"Helloooo Maya and Jay!" Riley chirped as we walked in. Jay rolled her eyes, but cracked a grin and I smiled at Riley.

"Let's go to my room, Maya," Riley suggested, grabbing onto my arm to pull me towards her room. Jay hung back and sat down next to Auggie.

Jay's POV

"Come on, Jay, it's time to go to school," Maya shouted, grabbing her backpack and flinging it over her shoulder. I was suddenly glad that last year my grandmother sent me to live in with Maya in New York where I was born, despite the fact that Dad wasn't as pleasant as Mr. and Mrs. Mathews.

I set down Auggie's car and gave him a kiss on his forehead. "Bye, Auggie," I whispered, grabbing my own backpack and slinging it over my shoulder.

"Jada Brooke Hart!" Maya called impatiently.

"Don't you dare use my full name, mother," I sassed back. Riley cracked a grin at me.

"I like this one, Peaches. Can we keep her?" Riley joked, still grinning which made Maya grin too.

"Yeah, why not? I'm kinda stuck with her anyhow."

I shoved her playfully, laughing along with the both of them. I was enjoying New York a lot more than North Carolina, that's for sure.

I smiled softly at Maya. She was a good sister.

"Race you to the school!" Riley screamed suddenly, and the three of us instantly took of towards John Quincy Adams Middle School.

*** Should I continue? I love OC stories, but they don't seem to be very popular in this fandom. Tell me what you think I should do! :)
