Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert sat beside the fountain in the middle of the city. Zhiganshina, the first city behind the 50-meter wall. The wall had been built to protect the humans from the Titans. Wall Sina, Wall Rose, and Wall Maria stood tall, and Armin looked up at Wall Maria in awe.

"Wouldn't it be awesome to see what's on the other side?" he asked his friends.

"Yeah!" Eren agreed, enthusiasm in his voice. "What do you think, Mikasa?"

"Sure, if you want to get eaten by Titans," Mikasa rolled her eyes. Eren and Armin frowned.

"Oh, yeah... Forgot about them," Eren muttered. Armin rubbed the back of his neck and looked around, seeing a group of kids picking on a cloaked figure.

"Guys," he points. Eren and Mikasa scowl and stand up.

"Hey! What's going on?" Mikasa demanded. The boys spotted the two advancing on them and dashed away. Mikasa sped up and ran to the figure. Eren and Armin tagged along. The person stood and its hood slipped off, revealing glittering sliver hair pulled back in a ponytail. The royal blue cloak fluttered in the breeze as she turned around.

"Thank you. I felt as though no one had noticed. I'm Nalya Yukira, seventeen years old. You are?" the girl smiled.

"I'm Mikasa. This is Eren and that's Armin."

"Nice to meet you," Eren waved.

"Hi. Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around," Armin smiled.

"Not in this area. I used to live near Wall Rose, but my parents died of illness, so I left. I love Zhiganshina, but my neighborhood was full of bad people."

"Sorry. Mikasa's parents were murdered-"

"Eren!" Armin scolded his friend. Mikasa put a hand on his shoulder.

"It's fine. At least I can have someone to relate to." Suddenly a thundering bang sounded through the city.

"Titan!" someone screamed. Then four whipped around and saw a Titan bashing through the wall.

"It's not possible! No Titan is taller or stronger than the wall!" Mikasa looked at Eren, seeing horror cross his face.

"Mom," he whispered and took off through the crowd. Nalya joined Mikasa in chasing after Eren.

"Mom!" he screamed as they turned the corner. Their house was in ruin, and Carla Jaeger was pinned beneath the rubble.

"Eren! Mikasa! You need to get to safety!" she ordered.

"We will! But not without you!" Eren shook his head. He took hold and strained to lift the rubble.

"Eren, take Mikasa and run!" Carla begged.

"As much as I want to, I want you to come!"

"Just listen to me for once in your life! Mikasa, make him go!" Carla yells at her son.

"I-I can't!"

"Hannes!" A blonde man in a brown and white uniform appears. "Take the kids, please!"

"Don't worry, Carla. I can take this," Hannes smiles. He takes one look at the approaching Titans and turns around, grabbing Eren and Mikasa.

"No! Put me down!" Eren shrieks. Nalya looks back at the woman, and kneels in front of her.

"I'm a new friend of Eren's. Do not worry, I will watch over him," she assured her and ran off. The Titan picked Carla up, opening its massive jaw and biting her in half.

"NOOO!" Eren thrashes about on Hannes' shoulder. Hannes held tightly to Eren and ran to the docks, where soldiers ushered people onto boats. Eren, Mikasa, and Nalya joined Armin on the first boat. Both Eren and Mikasa's faces were filled with shock, and Nalya quietly told Armin what had occurred. Eren stood up and walked to the railing.

"Eren," Armin grabbed his arm, but Eren jerked away, slamming his hands on the side of the railing. The other three could see the anger in his eyes, and the tears like endless waterfalls on his cheeks.

"I will kill them all!" he growled roughly. "When I am finished with them, they will be scared of me!"
