Zach and Cody, twins and troublemakers, snuck into the kitchen.

"Zach, I really don't think we should be doing this," Cody said nervously.

"What are you, a man or a mouse?" Zach whispered back, grinning.

"A mouse."

"Well, it's time to be a man!"

But, as Zach silently pushed open the door, an alarm sounded.

"RUN!" they yelled, and sprinted away.

"Why…did…an alarm…go off?" Cody panted as they skidded into the main hallway.

"Don't ask me, keep running!"

"Zach, I think we should- OW!"

Cody collided with someone, and they both fell. Books, journals, and papers flew everywhere.

"Oh, wow, I'm sorry!" he said, scrambling up and picking up everything he could reach. "I wasn't watching-"

Just then, his hand collided with soft, warm flesh. He stood stock-still and looked up at the person he had run over. His jaw dropped. There, in front of him, stood a girl his age. She had curly auburn hair that looked very thick, and sparkling, chocolate colored eyes. She wasn't slender, she was plain out SKINNY. Her hand was resting underneath Cody's fingertips, almost obscuring the title. He saw The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe under her hand.

"It's alright," she said, and he noticed that she spoke with a slight English accent. "It's my fault really. You two were in a huge hurry, and I guess I just didn't notice."

"Ye-yeah," Cody stammered. "I'm C-Cody."

"Emily Loveston," she said, and smiled, her teeth white underneath braces.

"Nice to meet you, Emily," Zach said, speaking for the first time. "You visiting?"

"No, my parents bought a suite, for some reason."

She shook her head, and picked up the last of her books. She put them carefully into her already heavily laden arms, grabbed her suitcase, and walked away.

"Wow," said Cody, watching her.

"Awesome," Zach said at the exact same time.

Cody, not having heard him, whirled around.

"How do you talk to a girl?" he said, his eyes wide.

"Dude, it's easy!" Zach said. "All you gotta do is pretend she's mom or something, except younger and, most of the time, WAY cuter."

"It's that easy?" Cody said, confused.

"Well yeah!"

"Wow."
