Chapter 1: Pilot (Sophia's POV)
Dear Diary,
So today is the first day of school. Mom and Dad are gone... again, but I guess that isn't a real big change. I hope today goes okay but I guess I say that about every day anymore...
"Sophie, we have to get going if you want to pick up Charlotte," Max calls up the stairs. I put up my journal before grabbing my bag and slinging it over my shoulder. I run down the stairs and stop in the kitchen to grab some strawberry poptarts.
"You really shouldn't eat those," Max comments. I just take a big bite of poptart and flip him off. I continue out to his car and get in, leaving him to follow behind. I take out my phone and text Charlotte: B there in 5! I put my phone back in my pocket as Max starts the car.
"Are you and Charlotte excited for your junior year?"
"As excited as we can be, I guess."
"What's wrong, Sophie?"
"I had that stupid dream again. It woke me up in the middle of the night," I admit, eating another bite of poptart. I really didn't want to talk about this with him.
"The weird one with the green eyes staring at you?" He teased. I really should have never told him in the first place, too bad he over heard me telling Charlotte. I rolled my eyes at his teasing.
"Yeah."
"Are you sure these dreams are healthy? I mean they seem to be make you more agitated than normal." Maybe it has something to do with you teasing me constantly.
"I'm fine, Max. Thanks for worrying though," I say with a small, forced, smile. We drive for a few minutes in silence before pulling into Charlotte's driveway. She quickly comes out the door and piles in the back. She was dressed to impress with a white sundress that had pink flowers on it and a pink cardigan. Her light blonde hair was in it's natural curly style. She always looks great, I think with a small shake of my head.
"That stupid dream is getting on my nerves, Sophie!" she rants. Charlotte climbs in the back seat and places her bag in beside her. You see Charlotte has also been having a weird dream, and I must admit it's a lot creepier then my own. Her dream revolved around a black crow that followed her. Very Hitchcock if you ask me.
"So you had a weird dream too?" Max asks teasingly. Oh, no, Max, better not mess with her.
"Yeah I had the damn dream again. The crow flew out of the mist and landed on a branch before starting to caw at me. I tried to run but every time I looked back I wasn't any farther than before. As if I were running on a treadmill." Her blue eyes were wide with fear as she explained it.
"I know what you mean, Charlotte. In mine, the green eyes were staring at me, no matter which way I turned. It was creepier last night though. They were brighter and seemed closer than before."
"You girls have been watching too many scary movies lately," Max says as he pulls up to the stop sign. I hear the flapping of wings and a loud caw to my right and look out the window. I see a crow sitting on the stop sign. That's weird...
"Look, Char," I say pointing out the window. She turned her head.
"Max, if you love me, you will drive. Now!" Charlotte says panicking. Max pulls away quickly and Charlotte seems to calm down.
"What was wrong?"
"That looks like the same crow as in my dream. And it was looking straight at me." I saw her shiver. Even I have to admit that that is scary. We pull up to at the high school parking lot and all exit the car quickly hoping to forget the scare.
"I hope we have some classes together. I plan on trying to share a locker," Charlotte says.
"Are you sure we would have enough room for all of your things Ms. I-Need-To-Look-Perfect?" I tease. She just sticks her tongue out at me like a child and I laugh. We make our way to the office to get our schedules when we pass by Elena Gilbert.
"Do you think she is okay?" I ask.
"I don't know. I mean, it's been four months since they died but she was in the car too and survived. That is bound to shake her more than just their death." Charlotte also lost her parents, 2 years ago in a car crash. Mr and Mrs Sliverstone were on their way home from a founding family function (as they were a part of a founding family) when they were hit head on and died instantly. Charlotte was home alone. She doesn't really talk about it much. She lives in the family house with her uncle now.
"Yeah." We reach the office to see a new student inside talking to the secretary. He had light brown hair and is at least six feet tall. All you could see of him was his back, but still, it was a hot back.
"Isn't he a looker?" Charlotte says. I just shake my head at her.
"We haven't even seen his face yet, dork." She just glares at me, making me laugh again. Finally he turns around and I see deep green eyes. I kinda freeze in my place and Charlotte looks at me weird. The new student freezes too, looking into my eyes. I feel an instant connection with him that I can't name. Soon the moment is over though as Charlotte pulls me out of the way to let him through. After he leaves I am still slightly in shock.
"What is with you?" Charlotte hisses at me.
"His eyes..." I trail off.
"What do you mean his eyes? What's wrong with them?" I just stood there dumbly, still in shock. "Come on, let's go get our schedules."
We are sitting in history, completely ignoring our asshat of a history teacher, Mr. Tanner, when Charlotte leans forward and taps on my shoulder.
"New kids looking at you," she whispers. I turn my head to look at him and he smiles at me. I smile back at him before turning away.
The bell rings ending class and I head to my locker. Charlotte has the one to my left and Elena has the one on the right.
"Hey, Stefan," Elena calls as he passes by. "Are you going to the party tonight? It's a back-to-school thing." He kinds stands there thinking for a minute before turning to me.
"Are you going to the party?" he asks. Before I can say anything Charlotte answers for me.
"Of course Sophia and I are going to the party. Where else would we be?" she asks jokingly while she pinches my arm.
"Yeah, definitely."
"Great," he smiles. "See you there, Sophia." I can't help but smile like an idiot at the way he says my name. Once he is gone I turn back to my locker but I can't avoid the angry expression on Elena's face because of Stefan ignoring her.
"Are you ready to go?" I ask Charlotte. She is reapplying her lipgloss for what seems like the millionth time. "You look perfect as always!" I exclaim, trying to make her hurry up. "Plan on something special happening tonight?" I ask her . She turns away from the mirror and smiles softly.
"I have a feeling" Was all she said.
"A feeling? What kind of feeling?" Charlotte's feelings are usually spot on. The last one she had saved me from a pop quiz in chemistry last year.
"Don't worry, Sophie, I feel like somethings going to happen tonight that will change our lives forever, that doesn't mean it's bad. Though, that shouldn't be ruled out. So if I want to look a little better tonight, I think I have the right too," She says with another smile.
"Alright" I grump, not liking the idea, "So, are you finally ready?" I ask, one again.
"Yes. Let's go, let's go!" she says pushing me out the door. We walk out the door of her house before going the short distance to the party.
"Are you excited about Stefan?" she asks.
"Yeah," I say blushing. We get to the party and go stand by the bonfire to watch for Stefan. We see him approaching and I wave but before he can reach me he is stopped by Elena.
"Hey, Stefan," she says, trying to be flirty. "I'm so happy you could make it,"
"Elena, you are very nice, but we won't happen... Ever. I'm sorry." With that he walks around her, leaving her stunned, and walks to me.
"Hi," I smile up at him breathless.
"Hi," he says smiling back. "Would you like to go for a walk?" I look towards Charlotte and she nods at me, pushing me towards him.
"So...," I say
"What would you like to talk about?"
"What about your family?"
"Well, my parents died awhile ago. I'm living with my uncle in the Salvatore boarding house. I have a brother but we don't really talk. What about you?"
"Well my parents are both alive but they travel so much that they are never home. It is just me and my older brother, Max, normally."
"That must be so..." Suddenly he is cut off by shouts coming from by the bonfire.
"Help! Someone call 911!"
"OMG! It's Vikki!"
"She's losing a lot of blood, it looks like an animal attack." I turn to see what is going on and when I turn back to Stefan he is gone.
"So he just disappeared?" Charlotte asks as we sit at the grill.
"Yeah. I turn to see what everyone is shouting about and when I look back to him he is gone."
"Wow, that's weird."She says.
"Maybe what happened tonight had to do with your feeling?" I ask her, knowing that it had to have been. She sighs and looks around.
"I guess, it's horrible what happened to Vicky, I mean, what kind of animal would attack someone so close to all those people at the party? It just doesn't make sense" She frowned her eyebrows together. "I just could have sworn that the feeling I got, was a good one.." She trailed off.
We sit there for a few minutes in salience before I notice a new guy sitting two tables down from us looking at Charlotte. He was staring at her very intensely, like he couldn't believe she was standing there, well sitting.
"Hey, Charlotte, who is that over there?" I ask her. She immediately looks and shrugs her shoulders, "I have no idea...I've never seen him before" She glances at him again. The stranger was beautiful, talk about tall, dark, and handsome. He had raven black hair and piercing blue eyes. Charlotte couldn't look away it seem. Which was really weird, Charlotte never stared at a boy, she could have anyone she wanted. Charlotte shook herself out of the trance she was in and turned back to me.
"Nope. Never seen him before in my life." She said really quickly. The stranger continued to stare at her and she turned her head.
"I, um, have to go, Sophie. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" She packed up her purse and rushed out the door. That has to be the weirdest thing I have ever seen her do I think. I turned to look at the stranger and just see a smirk on his face as he watches her leave. Weird.
I'm in the kitchen eating a snack when there is a knock on the door. I open it to find Stefan.
"Hey," he says. " I'm sorry about earlier. Are you okay?" he asks.
"I'm fine. Are you sure you are okay though? You disappeared kinda fast..."
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Would you like to come in and talk?"
"I'd love to."
Charlotte's POV
I walked out of the Grill and into the night. It was late, around 1 o' clock, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The moon and stars were shining brightly.
I couldn't get the feeling of knowing that stranger from the Grill, I know I've never met him in my life. But I couldn't shake the feeling.
Suddenly the air was filled with fog, I look around frantically, the seen feeling all to familiar to me from somewhere. My steps quicken, hands sliding into the pockets of my jacket at my waist. I'm suddenly glad that I decided to wear one, the night had gotten very chilly and eery feeling now that I had to walk alone in the dark. The fog certainly wasn't helping me feel any less uncomfortable.
I decide to take the only short cut to my house, through the Mystic Falls Cemetery. I know, really creepy in the day time, let alone at night. But it really was the only short cut.
As I approach the gates I get the feeling of someones, or things, eyes on me. I turn and of course see nothing.
"Come on, Charlotte, It's just a little darkness and fog, no reason to be afraid," I mutter to myself under my breath, "Vicky was attacked on the other side of town, in the woods, it's all okay, you have walked through this cemetery a hundred times and nothing has happened before, so nothing will now." I say trying to gather up my courage.
I finally build it up, and walk through the gates. I take the path that will lead me to the other side, where my house isn't too far from. I walk for a while and notice where I am, nearing my parent's grave. My throat becomes dry as I lay eyes on it, even knowing it's been 2 years, doesn't make it any less difficult for me. I didn't have any siblings to share the grief with, I only had myself. I couldn't really talk to Sophie about it, she would never truly understand. Even if her parent's weren't really around a lot, at least they aren't dead, at least she has her brother Max to help her out. The only family I had left was my Uncle, Kyle. He wasn't much to talk too, he was very busy with school and work, he didn't have time to help out his little niece.
I guess you could say I was envious of Sophie and Elena Gilbert. Even if they didn't really have parent's anymore (whether it be because they were always gone or they had died) they at least had siblings and aunts who would always be there for them,to be there family, while I had no one it seemed. The only person I had that was close enough to even be considered family was Sophie, and I was eternally thankful to have her as a friend.
Before I knew it I had sunk to my knees in front of my parent's grave. The stone reading :
Here lies Andrew and Emily Silverstone
Beloved Father and Mother
They shall be forever missed
I ran my hands over the engraving. "I love you, mom and dad" I whisper and get up, dusting off my knees to get the dirt off. I continued to walk on the small path.
Suddenly the fog seemed to thicken rapidly, more then just a mist as it had been previously. I looked around frantically, seeing nothing, but feeling the hair on the back of my neck stand up on end. A swoosh is heard near me to my right and I turn in that direction, finding nothing once more.
"Who..Whose there?" I call out. There was another swooshing sound and the next think I hear is a loud caw. I turn to the cawing and see a large crow and I feel like a bucket of ice water has been thrown on me. That crow, it's been haunting me in my dreams for months now. It stares at me with beady, black eyes and caws loudly once more. I shake my head, terrified, and turn and make a run for it in the opposite direction.
Unlike in my dream, I can actually run away from it. I run down the path and hear the cawing crow behind me and I trip, but I quickly get up and continue running, despite the pain in my leg.
I run and run until I finally stop. I look around and realize I'm not in the same part of the cemetery I usually am, It's the older part, the one that has been here as long as the town has. Large tombstones and statues are everywhere, adding to the already frightening feeling I'm experiencing. I sigh and turn in the direction I came from and let out a scream.
"Whoa there! Are you alright?" The man asks, it's the stranger from the Grill. I didn't realize how tall he was until now, standing at about 6'1'' or 2'', with dark hair, black it looked like, and sapphire blue eyes. His most out standing feature was the smirk on his face, it screamed confidence and sex appeal. He was clad in dark jeans and a black v-neck with a black leather jacket. He screamed 'bad boy'.
"I'm, I'm sorry, It's just there was this crow and this fog and it was making me nervous and just...gahh I can't explain it really" I babel on. "Wait, were you..following me?" I ask, realizing he was in a cemetery in the middle of the night.
His smirk widen, "Guilty, you caught me'' He holds his hands up in the surrender gesture," I saw you leave the Grill and It was really late and I didn't want anything to happen to a beautiful girl like you, so I followed you, just in case" He finished.
"Oh. Thank you, Mr..."
"Salvatore, Damon Salvatore" He says with a smirk.
Okay so the story needed a lot of work, So we decided to rewrite what we had and change a few things including one of the names of a character 'Rose' is now 'Charlotte'. I hope if you read it before you like the changes we have made. It will be close to the seasons but with twists to make it original. How do you like it? What did you think? REVIEW!
