Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters Rick Riordan does, I only own the plot to this story
Now on to the story
Leo Valdez. Calypso thought as she tended her garden. Leo Valdez was nothing like the other heroes. He wasn't muscular, wasn't very good with a sword, he was probably the only hero who could make her angry for no apparent reason, probably also the only one able to crash from the sky and land on her table and destroy it.
But even though he was nothing like the other heroes he managed to make her love him more than any of the other heroes. Then maybe that could be because of his warm brown eyes, or maybe it was because of his ever present bad jokes and no matter how bad they were they made her smile, maybe it was because he always could build the most amazing things. Or maybe, just maybe it was because of the fact that he wanted her to come with him. But of course she couldn't, she couldn't leave the island.
And because Leo was nothing like the others, he swore to come back. He swore it on the river Styx. He swore it even though no one ever found Ogygia twice. What would happen to the mechanic if he tried? Would he succeed or would he fail?
During the days she couldn't forget how he would call her Sunshine, the smirk he would make when he managed to annoy her or the way his eyes would light up when he talked about his dragon Festus or his ship, The Argo II. Sometimes she would wake up from a daydream, smiling; she would always imagine Leo succeeding. After her daydreams she would always gain more hope. But the hopes were destroyed during the nights, where nightmares would haunt her; they would always show Leo failing.
Until one day.
Calypso was once again, in her garden. Completely lost in thought until she heard an unusual noise from her cave, deciding not to think more about it she continued tending to her plants. A couple minutes later she heard the noise again, but this time it sounded like it was closer. Dusting her pants off, she made her way over to the cave to find the source of the noise. When she reached her cave, she looked around and found the source, a small bird sitting on her table. Thinking that the bird wasn't able to find its way out, she carried it out and set it free. Just before flying away the bird made a sort of thank you noise.
As Calypso made her way back to her garden, she failed to notice the big ship making its way to the shore. It wasn't until after a pair of hands covered her eyes, and the person the hands belonged to, whispered in her ear, "Hey Sunshine." That she realised she wasn't alone. When she removed the hands and turned around she saw the one person who she had wanted to see just one more time, the one and only Leo Valdez.
"You came back," Calypso whispered, still not quite believing it. "Yeah, I promised I would didn't I?" Leo whispered softly. Just before tilting her head slightly, and leaning down to kiss her.
In that moment Calypso realised that maybe, just maybe she didn't love him more than the others because of his jokes, or his smile, or his eyes. She loved him more than the others because he was true to his word, and that made him nothing like the others.
