Today was Killian's birthday.
While Emma was making dinner with Granny and Snow, he was in their room dressing himself for the big day, after all, almost everyone in town was coming to the party. Taking a step back, Killian looked at the mirror "Yep, I think I look good."
He was about to leave when someone knocked at the door.
"Can I come in?" Henry asked and Killian smiled at him, nodding.
Ever since they came back from bloody Neverland, he had grown fond of the lad. He was smart, curious, a fighter, much like his mother. He had started visiting the Jolly, asking if Killian could teach him how to swordfight since Charming was helping Emma at the station. Of course, Killian accepted. Soon those lessons turned into going to Granny's or spending the afternoon sailing and even taking Emma with them, once they started dating, as they say in this world. Henry even helped him preparing a surprise dinner for his mom. Killian could say that he loved Henry as a son.
"So… are you ready for the party?" The lad asked.
"Aye, I was just about to meet them downstairs."
"I, uhmm, I wanted to give you your birthday present. It's not a big deal, really, but I wanted to offer you something anyways." Henry said as he hesitantly extended a handmade birthday card.
"You didn't have to offer me anything, lad." Killian said as a genuine smile appeared on his face.
In the front, there was a ship with name Jolly Roger on it with the exact same colors and, at the helm, stood Killian, Emma and Henry. The drawing was really good and it made Killian chuckle but as soon as he opened the card, his smirk vanished and was replaced by a heartfelt smile and unshed tears. Inside, it read:
"Thank you.
Thank you for everything you taught me so far.
Thank you for making my mom happy.
Thank you for helping me when I needed most.
Happy Birthday, Dad."
One word. Three tiny letters. The first time Henry called him dad. Killian couldn't believe it. He just stood there, smiling at that little text and unable to say anything because there were no words for what he was feeling.
"So, do you like it?" Henry asked.
Killian grinned and hugged him with all the love he had for that boy. "It's perfect. Thank you"
"I'm glad you like it, dad. But now we really have to go. Everyone is waiting for us."
Killian opened the door. "After you, son."
