The Balls in Your Court
I don't own anyone. I'm just writing about them.
After Dean broke up with Rory and she ran to the bridge, Jess didn't follow her.
She walked alone in the night silently, as if she were floating. There was no moon, but that didn't bother her, she knew where she was headed. She had walked this path many times before and knew it like the back of her hand.
In the month since Dean had broken up with her, she had come to this hideaway every night. Searching for something, someone. But she never found it. She never found him. Sure she saw him every morning and every night at the diner, but it just wasn't the same. She had lost him. The person hiding inside him. She waited to long, hide her feelings to well. He wasn't the same. She couldn't talk to him anymore like she used to. He closed himself off from her and who could blame him. She certainly didn't.
She reached the bridge and walked towards the middle of it, sat down letting her feet dangle close to the water and thought back to their conversation not 30 minutes ago.
Coffee?
Please
Rory watched as he filled her coffer cup up to the top. He didn't glance at her once.
So Jess…
It was obvious to both of them that she was stalling.
Rory…
He wasn't going to help her. She got them into this awkward sham of a friendship, and she would have to get them out of it. Jess looked down at her. Just the sight of her sped his heart up, but he wouldn't let it show. She hurt him one to many times. The ball was in her court.
Read any good books lately?
Nope.
Me neither.
Huh.
Jess turned and headed towards the counter.
Luke I'm taking my break.
He shouted, and then he was gone. Rory watched him, as he disappeared into the darkness of the night. She sat at the table all alone staring out window, completely unaware of Jess, who was across the street staring back at her.
Rory was startled out of her thoughts by a sudden movement in the water beneath her feet. She saw a cigarette stub burnout and float under the bridge out of sight. Then she felt the bridge shake as Jess walked up behind her.
