"I need to talk to you.", Emma's voice was barely a whisper, as she didn't want anyone else to hear her. Only him.
"Here I am, love.", he tried to maintain his flirty attitude. "Do tell."
"Not here. I need to talk to you alone.", her face was neutral, so he couldn't really guess what she was thinking. He prepared himself for the worst.
Fortunately, Neal was too busy reminiscing with Tinkerbell, so he didn't really notice them leaving. Snow and Charming were in some kind of heated argument, so they weren't really paying attention to them, either.
"As you wish.", he replied, following her deeper into Neverland's jungle.
Too bad he couldn't see the small smile that appeared on her lips as soon as he said those three words.
"Alone we are, darling.", he said, wanting to add something else. Anything. But he couldn't find the words.
"I wanted to talk to you about before."
She waited for a reaction, that never came. So she continued.
"I just wanted to tell you about my secret. The secret I told Neal. You told me yours, so it's only fair for you to know mine." She paused again. "I was hoping he was dead. But I didn't know, I didn't realize that until the moment you revealed your secret."
"Emma, you don't have to do this, you know. Not now.", he said, completely abandoning the flirty behavior.
"I want to do this." She took a deep breath and continued. "You showed me that it's OK to move on from your first love. In my case, this being Neal. Baelfire. Just not right away. All I need now is to find my son. I…"
"Emma, I know. Do you want to know why? Because, as you once said, we understand each other."
He moved closer to her and, this time she didn't try to move away. She wasn't even nervous.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, love."
Killian pulled her against him and hugged her, holding her against his chest. It was not in a romantic way. It was in an understanding way. In an I'm-here-for-you way. And she liked it. More than she cared to admit.
"Now, let's go find the lad.", he said.
"As you wish.", Emma responded with a little smile.
What he didn't know was that she had another secret, too. Those three words had a whole different meaning. She had found out when she was sixteen and the family she was living with was watching a certain movie.
But what he didn't know, couldn't hurt him.
