"What If I Were A Lawyer?"

By: The Hunter of the Hill

It was a trying day in the Emergency Room and it was one of those very rare times I wondered why I was a doctor. We had three fatalities today and all three were young children. I care not to go into all the gory details suffice to say it's times like these that are amongst the most difficult even for the strongest doctor.

So as I sit here and think about this, what would I be doing if I wasn't practicing medicine? Good question. My father always wanted me to be a lawyer. Sometimes I can envision myself in a courtroom. My dad always said that I had a rather dogmatic personality and it was what I needed to make me very successful.

I would have to be a Prosecutor because there is no way I could defend rapists, murderers and the like. But I think I would make a good Prosecutor. I believe I could work with a District Attorney fairly well; I already have experienced in a supervisory role.

I'm picturing it now. I must say it's hard to see myself without a lab coat on and a stethoscope around my neck but I am trying. Let's all have a little fun and make this a well-known case and it's come down to the final arguments. Me on one side, the Defense Attorney on the other trying to sway the jury to our particular side.

I am standing in front of the jury and going over points that I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, will convict the accused. As I make my argument, I am quite animated and every bit as passionate as I am in the Emergency Room.

I refuse to back down. I am relentless in my proving the accused's guilt. I take a break and allow the defense attorney to present his argument. As he is doing that, I take notes so that I can present my rebuttal argument. When he is finished, I take the floor once again with conviction. My mission is to fill the Defense Attorney's argument with more holes than Swiss cheese! And I honestly think I do. Do I succeed? I'll keep that a secret.

Back to reality, I prefer the lab coat and the stethoscope look. I was born to practice medicine. Law, not so much. But it sure was humorous thinking about it!
