BLIP-BLIP-BLIP...
"Oblo! Captain's calling," Peter hollers up to the control deck of the M-ship.
"So, answer it, Quill!" comes the shouted reply, "He's callin' fer you anyway!"
The boy grimaces and draws his blanket up around his shoulders, he taps the display. "Hi, Cap'n."
"Peter. How you feelin', boy?" Yondu squints trying to see his adopted son, he hates how grainy the vid-calls get when the light drives are running. "Those gen packs workin' for ya?"
"Starting to," the Terran replies, he pokes at one of the devices on his shoulder, "I don't feel like puking everywhere anymore."
Udonta grins, "Good, you bes' leave them things alone, then. The packs'll deactivate and fall off when they finish doin' what the'r doin'. Understand?"
"Yes, sir," Peter fidgets.
"Listen," Yondu clears his throat, "Look at me, Quill." He waits for the kid to meet his bright, red gaze, "I know you were lookin' forward ta this bein' yer first raid as a Ravager, but there'll be others down the road, son. I promise you that."
Peter nods, he is disappointed. Apparently Bollip, who Quill still can't understand, was going to let him man the plasma cannons on the Ravager Construction. That would've been awesome. "I know."
The pirate sucks on his teeth, he realizes this is the first time he and Peter have been apart since he got the boy a little over a year ago. He doesn't like it, not even a little. "If everythin' goes as it should, I'll be at Sol Station in abou'... thirty-seven hours to pick you up. Okay?"
"Okay. It's a good plan, Captain," the child Ravager says, he scratches absently at one of the gen packs, "the one for the siege. I really wish I could be there for it."
"It's a good plan cuz you help'd me with it," Yondu murmurs proudly, which is true, once he got through all the kid's weird, Terran, entertainment references, Peter actually had some solid strategies to share. Quill grins at the praise. "Now, I want you on yer best behavior for the Madam, Peter, you hear me?"
"Yes, sir."
"Sol-ya ain' as patient as I am," Udonta lies through his jagged teeth, he knows that woman will spoil his boy rotten if she gets the chance, "She's liable to crush your little bones in those pink coils o' hers if you don' mind what she says."
Peter's blue eyes widen like saucers, why is everyone out to kill him... "I'll behave, Cap'n, promise..."
"'At's my boy. I'll see you soon, Peter," the Captain waves and the call disconnects.
The youngest Ravager frowns and huddles into his blanket. He, too, realizes that this is his first time away from the Centaurian since leaving Earth. He thought he'd be relieved, but Peter's surprised to discover that he's not, not even a little.
