For the Headcanon Exchange Challenge (Mel's headcanon that Katie wants a baby, but Oliver wants to play Quidditch all the time, so Katie adopts a dog and drops hints until Oliver finally blurts out that he wants kids.)
"What's that?" Oliver asks, brows raised as he comes home from practice.
"You're getting mud on the carpet," Katie says simply.
She cradles the small ball of dark fur in her arms like she would a child. Oliver stares in confusion. "Um. Katie? That thing in your arms?"
"This little guy? This is Warrick," she says, holding the puppy in outstretched arms so that Oliver can see him better. "Look, Warrick. Daddy's home!"
Oliver blinks slowly, trying to understand. He knows without a doubt that there hadn't been a puppy in the home when he'd left for practice that morning. He's almost certain that he and his wife haven't discussed the possibility of adopting a pet.
"Don't you think I should have had some say in it?"
"Why? You have Quidditch. I have Warrick. Just look at him! He's so small and lovable, just like a baby," she insists, and there's no mistaking the pointed tone of her voice. "Just like a baby, yes. Someone to care for and watch after. Someone I can watch grow. You know, they even have clothes for dogs now."
"Katie," he sighs, understanding.
"I know you're busy with Quidditch. So, why not get someone to keep me company, someone I can-"
"I want kids," he says suddenly. "Okay? I do."
"I've tried to bring it up before, but it's just 'Hey, Katie, what do you think of this strategy?'"
Oliver pinches the bridge of his nose. "I avoided the subject, okay? I don't know kids. I know Quidditch. It's what I'm good at. And I want kids," he explains. "I've been trying not to think about it because I'm not- I don't even know what you do with kids."
Katie sets Warrick on the couch and moves closer to him. She wraps her arms around him, kissing his cheek. "We can figure it out together," she whispers.
"Together," Oliver agrees.
Warrick whines, pawing at the couch. Katie quickly scoops him up again. "Awh, look! He loves his mummy!"
…
Warrick greets them at the door when they return home. He's bigger now, and just as spoiled.
Katie holds a new bundle in her arms. She sits down on the couch, and Oliver joins her, immediately followed by Warrick.
"Say hello to your little sister, Kenna," Oliver tells Warrick, resting his head on his wife's shoulder, smiling at his little family.
