The Price for Insolvency

He didn't have his abilities anymore, but he still remembered. And the damage was still done.

The whispers rose again.

'What's wrong Toshiki? You could do all this fine before? What's changed?'

'You gone back to that measly little brain of yours?'

'…that ability-less life?'

'…being inept?'

And Kumi-chan wasn't there to stop them. Still at the hospital – but even if she were back, she no longer remembered him.

At least she was still alive. She could have been dead. He'd killed her after all. If he hadn't been able to pay the price to bring her back…

'Can't you do anything right?'

'How could you forget what you did just last week? Never mind you've been doing this for the last three years.'

'You aced that test last week. How could you go and fail now? I knew you'd cheated.'

'I preferred you like you were before.'

But Kumi-chan hadn't. Kumi-chan had loved the old him. And he'd turned himself into a monster for abilities.

It was fine, being inept. So long as she was still alive.

'Who…are you?'

That was the only part that hurt. But that was the price he had to pay for his foolishness.
