How can you love someone and not be able to be with them? It was a question she asked herself over and over until her head rang with the words she didn't get a chance to say. Maura Isles and Jane Rizzoli had been in a loving, committed relationship for two years. Until one night…
The medical examiner wasn't sure what had come over her. Perhaps it was a lack of physical contact, perhaps it was a combination of things. She loved Jane. She truly did, with every inch of her being. But..people made mistakes. And this one, she'd live to regret. How could she ever think sleeping with Frankie was a good idea?
Maybe it had had something to do with the alcohol she'd consumed. Maura had always considered him a brother, considered him a kind and decent man. But why had he taken advantage of her? Before she could even figure out what happened, the woman had woken up, naked, confused, and hung over in his living room. The first thing that ran through her mind was
Where is Jane? And then, when she saw Frankie exit the bedroom in just his boxer shorts, everything came swimming back in waves. The blonde had cheated on her long time girlfriend. If she ever found out about this, there would be no forgiveness. She couldn't even lie. Her hives would give her away every time. There was only one thing to do- get dressed and tell Jane.
Well, that was what she'd done. Jane had told her she'd betrayed her and that she'd broken her heart. Maura had never seen the brunette in all the years they'd been friends. No amount of begging or pleading could make up for what she'd done. Was their relationship and their friendship ruined forever?
Jane had packed her things and gone back to her apartment. She wouldn't answer Maura's phone calls, texts, nothing. And Frankie was in the exact same boat. He didn't want to talk to Maura because he knew he was wrong for taking advantage of her. Angela, the Rizzoli matriarch, was pissed. But, mostly at Jane for not staying and trying to work things out. Her reaction surprised the blonde.
"D-Don't be mad at Jane…"She'd asked, tears stinging her eyes as she glanced at her phone. No, she'd stopped expecting there to be a message from the woman. She'd stopped expecting anything. Jane hated her and she'd brought it all on herself. Maura had done something she swore she'd never do…
Hurt Jane.
What she wouldn't give to be in her arms right now. To apologize, to hold her and fix everything. Though, some things couldn't be fixed. And she'd have to get used to that.
"You need to go and talk to her, Maura. And so does Frankie."Maura simply shook her head. No, it was a bad idea. Jane would either ignore the excessive knocks on her door, or she'd answer and yell again. Maura didn't think she could handle either of those circumstances.
"The last thing she wants is to see us right now. Just...give her some time. I know I hurt her, but she'll at least reach out to Frankie. And I have hope she'll reach out to me, too.."She hoped, but she wouldn't count on it. Who knew what Jane was doing right now?
