Chocolate
Her hair is a dark, frizzy brown.
Her skin is light, a healthy tan colour.
Hermione Granger is a normal girl, with normal attributes... if not for her eyes.
Because they're not just brown.
They're a beautiful shade of chocolate – rich and homely.
When the girls see her, they try hard to convince themselves that Hermione Granger – nerdy, goody-two-shoes and completely average-looking would never be better than them; would never vie for the affections of Hogwarts' eligible bachelors.
But then they realize, that despite that mass of bushy, plain hair; despite her high regard for rules, despite her being a complete and utter teacher's pet, her chocolate orbs actually stand out in a crowd.
And they are filled with an intense jealousy, an envy so strong it becomes an obsession – to upstage Hermione Granger.
And so, slowly, but surely, one Hermione Granger, Miss Perfect-Little-Know-It-All becomes the social pariah at Hogwarts, shunned by students whenever they see her. The teasing. The ribbing. The jokes at her oversized mass of bushy hair. Her teeth, too big in her mouth. The way she answers every question in class is joked about and regarded with disdain.
And her eyes, permanently attached to a book to prevent her from being hurt by her peers are never noticed.
Until one Hufflepuff, his gaze landing on the forlorn creature in the library decides to approach her. And as she looks up into his plain brown eyes, the words of encouragement at the tip of his tongue are lost the moment he looks – really looks into her chocolate orbs, and for whatever reason, comprehending the pain this girl locks behind her eyes, in the deepest recess of her soul.
"Yes?" Hermione asks warily, hand reaching in her robes to prepare herself for anything that might occur.
"Your eyes," Cedric says, "They're chocolate."
And cheesy as this line may be, Hermione Granger smiles, her one true smile since term began.
And so the friendship of a brown-eyed boy and a chocolate-eyed girl begins.
