A/N: Hello, this is my first try at fan fiction. I hope everyone enjoys.
Chapter 1
-Narrator POV-
The day is bright and cheerful, but the atmosphere was bleak and lifeless. The people of Pallet Town are all afraid and full of despair. In a newly built bar at the edge of town, is where one would usually find Ash Ketchum. He spends his days drinking various brands of alcohol, getting drunk, and terrorizing the town in drunken rage. He's also been in-and-out of jail for being too drunk and multiple counts of assault.
It all began when his mom, Delia Ketchum, was diagnosed with stage three leukemia. The cancer was detected too late for treatment to be of use. So, she only had three months to live. Ash promised his mother that he would win as many regional leagues in honor of his mother to keep her smiling. Sadly, he did not win any leagues for his mother.
On Delia's deathbed, Ash is crying without signs of stopping. Delia produces a gruesome cough, forcing Ash to stop gripping her hand, and embrace her fiercely. Delia smiles at her son's love and compassion. Delia says," Ash, honey. Will you promise me something?"
Ash replies," Of course mom! I will promise you anything."
Delia whispers to Ash," I love you Ash, honey. Promise me that you won't stop smiling. Just for me." With that, Delia's chest stops rising and falling as per usual. Ash's mother had fallen victim to cancer like many others. Delia Ketchum has died. Ash looked up, and tried to smile, but found he couldn't. He lost his only family. His family fell into desolation, as he felt isolated from the world. With no hope left, Ash forgot his promise to his mother. Little did Ash know, that his savior was coming to save him.
-May POV-
"It's great to be back in Kanto. I haven't been here since I vacationed with Dawn two years ago." I said as I stepped of the plane in Saffron City. I brought out the Togekiss that Dawn let her borrow for transportation since Dawn was sightseeing in Goldenrod with gym leader Whitney. I longed to see my old traveling companions, so I flew on Togekiss to Pewter City to visit Brock first.

A/N: Whoop Whoop! My first chapter has finally been uploaded. I had a lot of fun writing this during class. The beginning of every great story is with a drunk main character(partially true). Don't forget to to Rate and Review!
