Erwin said he was becoming too attached to her, but that was clearly false. Levi doesn't get attached to anyone, especially not his younger, inferior squad members.
Even though their daily private training sessions (she was humanity's second strongest, after all. They had to work together) had allowed him to discover that she wasn't just a killing machine, but a young woman who had gone through hell, that when she was annoyed or angry with him she would get very quiet, and that she had a scar running from her jaw to her ear on that otherwise flawless porcelain skin, he wouldn't say he was quite attached to her, as Erwin accused. Although their sessions had become one of the more enjoyable parts of his day, he wasn't attached. When Hanji or Erwin said something funny and she glanced over at him very briefly, those strange, warm tingles that shot through his body definitely did not mean he was attached.
Levi had always been called emotionless and cold, and he would work to keep his feelings that way to her and to anyone. But when he watched as that stupid, horse-faced Jean tucked a strand of her raven hair behind her ear, the sudden rage that he felt surprised him. And, in that moment, as he stomped away from the scene, he realized he was attached to Mikasa. In fact, it may have been much more than that.
