Chapter 1
Shannon sat out on the beach, looking out at the ocean. She sighed. Why hadn't they been rescued yet. She got up and began walking back to her tent when she saw Jack walking towards her. This was odd. It must just be coincidence, she told herself, I mean, why would Jack, the island hero & leaded be coming over to talk to her, useless, helpless Shannon.
"Hey Shannon" the doctor called to her once he was close enough
"Ah, Hi" She answered, confused as to why he was talking to her.
"How you doing? Any problems with your asthma since the attack the other day?" He asked. Oh, now it made sense, he was here out of doctorly responsiblility. She though back to the other day; how calm he'd been when he was trying to help her to get he breath back. How calm & caring he'd been. The way he looked into her eyes telling her everything would be fine. How she hated Kate because Jack liked Kate.
She snapped out of her daze and found herself checking him out. She realized what she was doing and answered his question.
"No, everything's been fine" She said quickly. He smiled at her and her heart sped up.
"Good to hear" He answered, still smiling at her. Her heart was racing.
"Yeah" She nodded, not trusting herself to say anything else.
"You want to go for a walk? Get some fruit with me?" He asked her.
"Sure. Just let me stop at my tent first" She told him.
"Alright" He said and she ran off to her tent.
She grabbed her brush and began brushing her hair. She fixed her make up, even though she only had a limited amount left. Once she was satisfied with how she looked she went out to find Jack. He was outside waiting for her and smiled when she came out. She smiled back, and for a minute they just stood there, staring into each others eyes. Then they both looked away.
"Come on, lets go" He said, walking towards the jungle. She followed him without a word.
Once they got to a section where there were lots of trees with lots of different kinds of fruit he turned around. He looked down to see if she had a skirt or shorts on before asking her if she wanted to climb or if he should. She watched him stare at her legs for a moment before putting down the bag she'd brought to put the fruit in. Jack looked up from her legs.
"Aahhh..." He forgot what he was going to ask her. He remembered. "You want to climb or should I?" He asked her.
"It doesn't matter" She answered. "Sure I guess" She walked over to a tree and grabbed a strong branch. She pulled herself up and climbed up until she found a spot where she could sit. She began picking fruit.
"Here. I'll throw them down to you. Catch!" She called as she threw one down. He caught it and put it in the bag. She threw down another one and he caught that one too. They repeated this until the bag was full. Then Shannon started climbing down from the tree.
Shannon let out a scream. She her hand had slipped and now she was falling. Right before she expected to hit the ground she felt Jack's arms wrap around her. They both let out small sighs of relief.
She turned around, he still had his arms around her. She leaned in a little and watched as he did the same. Their lips were centimeters apart when she pulled away.
"Thanks" She said softly. She was still confused about what had almost happened; and even more confused about why she had stopped it from happening.
"Yeah. No problem." He said, looking as dazed as she felt. "We should get back to camp." He said and she nodded in agreement. They walked back to the camp in silence.
