Note: I imagine Ed with his black clothes but not the robey-thing.
He Can't Do That
"I can't BELIEVE you ruined it again!!" said Winry, giving Ed a good swift thwack over the head with her heaviest wrench.
Ed and Winry were sitting in her workshop, because he had broken his automail leg. Al was out playing with the kittens of a stray cat that Pinako had been caring for.
"I didn't mean to..." Ed said, rubbing the rising lump on his cranium.
"Let's talk about something else..."
"Okay!" said Ed, happy he wouldn't have to explain the automail incident. He began to go on about all the things that he and Al were going to go do when they got their bodies back. Winry listened patiently and politely.
"...and we're gonna go swimming in all sorts of places and get all kinds of good food just for Al, and..."
Suddenly Winry stopped. They couldn't leave when they got their bodies back... they just couldn't. She couldn't accept that.
"...and we're also gonna--- Hey, why did you stop?" Ed looked confused.
"Ed, when you get your bodies back, you can't do all those things!!!" Winry blurted.
"But... why?" he asked worriedly. What was wrong?
"Ed, I don't like it when you leave all the time. You know that." He nodded slowly. "But I realized just now that I'm not worried about you forgetting me over some other girl-"
"Forget you over some other girl?? What girl could possibly compare-"
"-because you have the automail and that's mine. But when you have your bodies back, there'll be nothing to remember me by when you go traversing the world and meeting girls ten times as pretty as me-"
"No girl is prettier than- wait, why do you-"
"-so that's why you have to stay here with me!!!" She finished, gasping for breath. She hadn't really listened to his interruptions.
Ed stood up and looked right at her. Winry slowly stopped heaving and looked right back. He put his hands on her shoulders and stared straight into her eyes. It was like he could see into her soul when he did that... maybe he could...
"Winry... Why do you care if I meet other girls?" He asked carefully. She knew she couldn't lie believably with the way he looked at her. But could she bring herself to say it?
"Because...Because... I... Like you..." She said, very, very slowly, unable to look into his eyes.
"Winry, I want you to know that I couldn't forget you if my brain were liquefied and poured out through little holes drilled in my toes." He smiled a bit at that, then was serious again. She looked back into his incredible golden eyes. Was he implying that maybe...? "And as for girls ten times as pretty as you... that's not physically, mentally, theoretically, alchemically, scientifically or in any other way possible."
"Really?" There were small tears in hers eyes. She was absolutely thrilled to hear this from Edward Elric, the man that (she had realized only five minutes ago - when fixing his automail, no less) she had always loved.
"Really." He wiped the tears away with the back of his index finger and smiled gently.
They looked at each other - Winry happily, Ed thoughtfully.
Then he pulled her toward him and kissed her. The small, sweet gesture shocked her... in a good way. He pulled back and grinned at her. She began to cry again and hugged him tightly, resting her chin on his shoulder.
Alphonse smiled (as much as a suit of armour can smile) from his peeping-place at the window. Unbeknownst to the pair, he had been watching the whole time from the small space between the curtains.
"You know what you said about us having to stay here with you?"
"Yeah..." This saddened her again.
"Do you wanna come along instead?"
"Yes I do Ed, yes I do!!!"
They both thought they were the happiest person in the world.
Fin.
