This is a short oneshot about the Joker remembering a girl he used to know and is inspired by the song "whatsername" by Greenday
Disclaimer: I do not own The Joker, or the Dark Knight or the Greenday song Whatsername.
The Joker walked into the dimly lit room. It had objects strewn all over the place, as though someone had left in a hurry and didn't intend to come back too soon. The man must have known that he was coming. Shame, he was looking forward to hearing his explainations about what happened to his money.
The Joker gazed down at a broken photoframe, the picture of a smiling woman was still cleary visible through the shards of glass. He picked it up. The woman must have been the man's daughter. He could use this to his advantage.
As he stared at the photo he was reminded of a girl he used to know. He knew her well.
She was very fair. Her auburn hair turned golden in the sun and looked like a river of gold when the wind blew. She had perfectly smooth porcelain skin and her eyes were an impossible shade of blue. She was a thing of beauty.
And her smell. He could still remember her smell. It was sweet, like a pine forest when it rained after a hot day.
She was always smiling, her white teeth revealed when her rosy lips parted in laughter. Even now, her angelic laughter filled his ears.
She often wore a ridiculously large sunhat, but it only seemed to add to her carefree and sunny nature.
She wanted to see the world with him. To experience different cultures, exotic places and meet strange people. Though they would have to travel by boat because she was afraid of heights.
she wouldn't be able to go travelling by herself, she was quite a delicate creature. She often fell ill.
The doctors couldn't find out what was wrong with her. But despite her illness she was still happy, still enjoyed life. She never asked for anything and always thought of others.
She didn't fear much, she was so courageous, even when she was in so much pain.
He remembered her so vividly, she was so endearing. He recalled her perpetually bubbly nature, her angelic voice, she was a good singer.
They always enjoyed each other's company. They had so much fun together, innocent fun. She was probably the only woman he ever loved.
He didn't know what happened to her. It was like she disappeared without a trace.
Sometimes he dreamt of her in a sunny meadow, happy, dancing. Then it all turned dark, he would look down, tears blurring his vision, then look up and she would be gone. He often tried to look for her but he couldn't move.
He often felt a pain in his chest when he thought of her. He supposed that it was sadness. It was probably the only real feeling he felt now.
It seemed like the time he had spent with her was centuries ago.
And though he could still remember her like he had seen her yesterday.
He couldn't recall her name.
"And in the darkest night, if my memory serves me right, i'll never turn back time, forgetting you but not the time" - whatsername
Good song.
