I Promise to Protect You

Shizune was left alone in the small dirty hotel room Tsunade was able to rent

while she was off gambling in hopes of gaining some more money. It was storming out and the roof was leaking just above the beds. Shizune quickly grabbed her favorite blanket and clung to it with her favorite teddy bear in the other arm. This place was one floor only and Shizune tried to find a safe spot in the room to sleep. She was still small for her age so it was easy for her to fit in certain places, but that wasn't working out well tonight.

Another crash of thunder and the room shook. Shizune never liked storms in the first place. She was hiding underneath the table as that seemed to be the safest place in the room. She was shaking but tried to calm herself. All she wanted was for Tsunade to return, Shizune was worried about her too. The roof then caved in several moments later in the bedroom, water pouring into the place and placing debris everywhere. That's when Tsunade opened the door and came in.

Tsunade found Shizune shaking underneath the table, wrapped up in the blanket

and tears streaming down her cheeks. Tsunade quickly scooped up Shizune into her arms and placed a chaste kiss on her forehead, trying to calm the young girl. She noticed how the roof caved in just above their beds and she frowned, looking back down at the young girl in her arms.

"What if she had been sleeping when that happened?" Tsunade thought to herself.

She grabbed their two suitcases and went out into the hallway and rested against the wall, the rented room being far too dangerous to stay in. Tsunade looked down at the terrified girl and held her tight, feeling guilty.

"I'm sorry Shizune. I won't leave you alone again, okay? I promise to protect

you." Tsunade managed to give Shizune a small but genuine smile. Brushing the

girl's hair out of her face, Tsunade noticed Shizune had stopped crying but was still shaken up. Holding her close all night, the two slept like that until morning came and they went to start all over again.
