Juliet's Dandelion

Isabella cupped her hands around the dandelion as she made her wish. She had just finished with her school's performance of Romeo and Juliet, and was making her way to the car park with her parents when she saw it lit with the light pouring out of the school's hall. The white dandelion seeds floated up into the night air around her.

"Isabella, come on," her mother called somewhat annoyed.

"Coming," the girl called before running off.

Years passed but Isabella never forgot her wish, she knew that these took time but she wanted it now.

At twenty-one and in her final year of college, she was finally ready to start living. Isabella would be graduating in a couple months and would love to have someone waiting for her when she got off the stage. Her parents either wouldn't or couldn't make it. A falling out between her and her mother would make any trip for Renée implausible and her father, well he was six feet under having passed in a shooting at work. That was a sad time for everyone involved.

After closing up the coffee shop that late afternoon she had worked at for the last three years of her life did little Bella run into her wish. They both made sounds of pain as the collided into each other. Isabella's bag fell out of her hands and was sent crashing to the concrete below - its contents sprawled out for the world to see. The bouquet of flowers in the assailant's hands landed slightly bruised but still presentable on top of Isabella's belongings.

"I am so sorry," a man's voice intertwined with Isabella's. Mentally, Isabella cursed her long chestnut coloured hair for flying in her face and mouth. The steady breeze that had been blowing all day had been perfect in her mind until now.

"Romeo and Juliet," he started as he collected her books. "Did my heart love 'till now? Forswear its sight. For I never saw a true beauty 'til this night." His velvet voice rang with familiarity as he recited the line, only Isabella couldn't place where she knew him from.

"You know Romeo and Juliet?" Isabella asked confused and impressed.

"Unfortunately. In my opinion Romeo was a complete idiot." By this point Isabella still hadn't seen the man's face but she didn't want to save it break a spell she had created in her mind.

"How so?" she challenged putting everything back in her tote.

"He killed himself and his love out of sheer stupidity."

"Be that as it may, it's still one of the great love stories." Isabella started to move off toward home. "I should be going," she muttered finally looking up to see the stranger's face. She let out and involuntary gasp.

"Rom-. I mean, Edward. What are you doing here?" She couldn't help but notice how beautiful he was. When she last saw him, he was cute and all but now...Wow.

"I wanted to ask you out on a date. Something told me you never did get over that crush on me," he said with a smirk that she hadn't seen since she was twelve. "And I got these for you."

"Are there Dandelion's in there?" she asked as he handed her the flowers in his hands.

"Um, yeah. Your mum told my mum who told me, she caught you wishing on a Dandelion after our performance, 'Someday I'd-'"

"'Find my Romeo'. I would kill that woman if we were still talking," she grumbled under her breath.

"I'm sorry to hear about what happened between you and your mum. I know it may be a little late but my mum said that if you ever need her, she'll be there for you. She's always thought of you as a second daughter."

"Tell your mum thank you."

"So...what do you say?" Edward's green eye's shone with hope.

"About what? You haven't asked me anything yet."

"Still the same old smart ass, I see."

"Here's my address," Isabella said pulling out a pen. "Pick me up at seven?"
