A/N: I don't own Harry Potter.
This is my fic for the Ultimate Pairing Drabble Competition prompt "swimming". I'm not really sure how I got this from the prompts. *shrugs*
Also included are my quotes from the Movie quotes Drabble Challenge.
Pairing: One-sided Bellatrix/Voldemort
Words: 217
Bellatrix Lestrange was not your average Death Eater. Your average Death Eater joined the Dark Lord out of fear, lust for power, or ideology. Bellatrix had joined out of love. Granted, it was the rather twisted love of a slave for her master, but it was love nonetheless.
It was because she cared for His safety that she dared speak up in protest of the latest proposed attack. She knew the second the words left her mouth that she had made a mistake.
"Bella," He hissed. "I find your lack of faith disturbing."
The idea of disappointing Him was so painful that it took every bit of self-control she had to stammer out that she would never doubt Him. He didn't answer her. Instead, He turned and addressed the rest of His assembled followers.
"Gentlemen, the only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it's possible."
The meeting continued for well over an hour after that, but Bellatrix's mind was elsewhere. The impossible, He had said. Did she dare believe that He would ever want her?
As the meeting ended and everyone shuffled out, she lingered, hoping against hope that He would speak to her. He barely glanced her way before He, too, departed.
She was swimming in devotion, and He'd leave her there to drown.
