"How long are you going to stay with me?"

"Forever"

She had meant it when she told him that. When she promised him her forever and he denied that it would not be his. They stood there on that rocky planet and held each other's hand tighter than necessary, struggling to mesmerize that moment in exact detail. Wanting to commit it to memory so even after years pass and the Universe moves on, they would remember.

"I told you before; I made my choice a long time ago and im never going to leave you"

He couldn't say no to her, not when her eyes held such sincerity that his hearts melted in an instant. She had promised forever and now she was proving it, showing him that she was determined to stay with him no matter what. He could do nothing for a moment but stare in her eyes, so many unspoken words wanting to make their way passed his lips but all he could say was, "Ok,"

"Will I ever see you again?"

"You can't"

He saw the moment that her hold on her shields broke. Saw the moment she lost all hope of ever getting back to him. Tears fell down her face in steady streams, her hair was blown about her face from the wind he could not feel and her shoulders shook with barley controlled sobs. He could not ever remember seeing anything so devastatingly beautiful. He had always known she was one of the most beautiful things he would ever see but now he knew, from now on nothing would compare. She pushed her hair out of her face and opened her mouth to say something but the words got caught in her throat. She took in an uneven breath and tried again.

"I love you"

Her eyes sparkled when she said it despite her tears. Sobs continued to rock her body as he stood there shocked. He had always known that she loved him, how could he not, she showed him all the time. With every glance and time she reached for his hand he felt her love radiating off of her in waves. Hearing her say it though, hearing the words coming out of her mouth was a hold different experience.

"Quite right too"

No, no that is not what he had wanted to say. He wanted to tell her the truth, how he felt about her from the very beginning. From the moment he grabbed her hand and whispered, "Run," he had felt for her things that would make the Gallifrey High Council keel over. He wanted to tell her how his hearts fluttered when she gave him that touge in teeth grin and how when she hummed while helping him tinker with the TARDIS he would listen with all his concentration to her wonderful voice. How he loved the way she looked after an adventure, all out of breath, hair wild and barley containing laughter. He wanted to tell her that she had fixed him, taken the broken mad right out of the Time War and showed him that life was worth living, that the Universe was still so full of wonder and that you just had to keep going on. She was his everything; his companion, his friend, his air, his gravity, the only thing keeping him from becoming the monster he knew he could be.

"And I suppose, if it's the last chance I get."

It would be the last chance; there was no getting her back. Once this small little gap between worlds closed, that was it, there time would be over. There would be no more The Doctor and Rose Tyler in the TARDIS, as it should be. She was getting taken away from him, just like everything did, the one thing he wanted to keep close and safe in all the Universe was now so far out of his reach. But he could give her this one thing.

"Rose Tyler-"

And as cruel fate would have it the almighty last of the Time Lords ran out of time.
