Chet Matthews opened his eyes to darkness, but… it wasn't your average darkness, he could see well in the darkness. It was like he was wearing night-vision goggles. Another weird thing… was his bed felt a lot bigger than normal. He reached for the lamp and saw not a hand… but a paw. A light blond streaked with blue paw. He jumped up and looked down at himself. He was a cat, but before his eyes, he was human again.
Chet took several deep breaths and stood up. He flicked the switch to his light on and walked into the bathroom that was accessible from his room. He looked into the mirror and the person looking back at him was a fifteen year old guy with blond hair that was dyed blue on the ends and usually spiked. His eyes were blue and he had an earring in his left ear.
As Chet walked along the pathway leading to Marietta High School his mind was filled with that interesting 'dream' he had. He emerged from the wood and got on the main road. He ran quickly across the street and regained the regular pace as he came down the hill.
"Hey dude." He called to his friend Jason who walked up to him with a grin. "Hey." They both walked into the cafeteria where groups of people chat and eat before the bell goes signaling class.
"So what's up man?"
"What if I told you that I turned into a cat this morning?"
"I would tell you the guidance office is at the front." Jason replied back sarcastically.
"It was a crazy dream, dude, I mean… it felt so real though." Chet said grabbed a cereal from the tray and walking towards a free table.
"What do you think, you can turn into cats now?"
"You never know, you never know."
"Well, I've got something to grab from my class, see you in Gym." Jason walked off down the hallway.
In Gym, they both stayed away from the class during the free time Coach gave them. They sat down in the grass under a tree and talked. Chet leaned against a tree when all of a sudden, something hurt as he leaned back. He jumped forward to reveal a really shaggy tail coming from his back side.
"Wa-aahhh!" He called out jumping up. "You see this!? Do you see this!?"
"Holy sh---it!" Jason jumped back and stared at it.
"This is what I saw this morning. It wasn't a dream." Chet said nervously as the tail vanished. "It… it… it's gone." He sighed relieved.
"I've got… to… go… somewhere over there." Jason said, running off.
"Great." Chet sighed.
Ever since that day the powers showed themselves… little by little… Jason tended to not want to be around Chet anymore. He was more distant. Days went by where they only spoke once and it was not even speaking so-to-say. Chet felt like a freak, being able to grow animal parts, but this was only the beginning.
