Remus Lupin looked around his new classroom, sorry that he had been forced to leave Hogwarts, but at least Professor Dumbledore had been able to secure him another position, with an old colleuge, teaching Dark Arts Defense.
In less than 24 hours, the students at the Southern Academy for Magic in America, would be returning to class and it looked like a tornado had hit his classroom.
Of course he could put it back together in time, but it would have been nice to know what was needed in advance. He sighed and ran his hand over his face.
"One day, Severus Snapeā¦," he thought to himself. "One day."
"Oh, well, better get to work," he spoke to himself aloud.
He had been at work for a little over two hours and had all the tables and chairs righted, and the textbooks back in the shelves, when he heard someone behind him.
"Professor Lupin?"
He turned to see a small red-headed lady standing in his doorway. She was wearing purple work robes over blue jeans and a t-shirt.
"Yes?"
She smiled, and crossed the distance between them. "I'm Madeline Mae." She held out a hand to him. "I teach Divination. My classroom is at the end of this wing."
"Nice to meet you, Professor Mae," he replied, shaking her hand. "Is there something I can do for you?"
"Please, call me Maddie. Sorry it was such a mess in here," she apologized. "The last teacher kind of went off her rocker after her retirement party. She was convinced there were dark wizards hiding in here."
He smiled. "Well, that explains all the spell marks on the wall."
"Yeah. She was a good teacher, but a bit of a nut." She looked around for a minute. "I just came by to tell you that you are co-sponsor of our fourth years. We have to go and check that they are in the dormitories. Be prepared. They all have puffed up egos tonight, cause it's their first night as Upper classmen with no lights out policy. Technically, you have last names N-Z, and I have A-M, but if you don't mind, I'll just look in on the girls and you the boys."
"Of course." He replied.
"Follow me." She led him out of the east wing and up the west stairs.
After checking on the students, they met back in the fourth year common room.
"Listen, tomorrow should be pretty easy, just hand out text books and assign seats if you care to do that," she told him. "Tuesday is when we really start to work. Do you need any help with your room? I've got mine petty much as good as I'm going to get it."
"I think I can manage. Thank you."
"Goodnight, Professor Lupin."
"Remus. My name is Remus."
"Remus, then," Maddie Smiled.
"Goodnight, Maddie." He walked out the door and she crossed the room to lock it, as her quarters were inside the fourth year tower.
"Just what is it with you and English guys?" A sarcastic voice asked from the balcony.
She looked up to see her daughter, smirking down at her.
"Don't make that face, Darling," she replied. "It makes you look just like your father."
"Something should," Catherine replied, snidely, then broke into a smile. "So, who was that?"
"The new DAD teacher, and I was just being nice. I have no romantic interest in him or anyone else except.."
"Yeah, yeah I know, David," Cat mocked.
"Oh, go to bed, Severus, Jr." Maddie laughed.
"Don't call me that," Cat replied. "Night, Momma. I love you."
"Love you, too, Kiddo."
Cat blew her a kiss then disappeared back into her room.
Maddie just shook her head as she disappeared into her own chambers.
