This is the story of a threat and a resolution. This is the story of compassion and consideration, kindness and caring nature. This is the story of a fight to the death, and the one time two residents opened their lives and hearts.
As brutal, wicked claws slashed across her face, a soot-covered cat backed against a wall. Her bright eyes were dimmed with pain and fear, and her once-beautiful fur was torn and covered in blood.
"Please," she whimpered. "You've already stolen from me enough to hurt me. You could at least let me live, just one day. I'll make it up to you, I promise."
"No more promises!" A huge panther-like figure snarled. His muscular hand grabbed the cat and hurled her at the wall. "You angered me for the last time!"
The cat managed to ease her fall with her paws, but even that was hardly enough. She lay on the ground, unmoving, accepting that her inevitable death would be less painful if she stopped struggling. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine a different world… Maybe her mother would be there? No, that was a silly thought. Her mother would hate her for getting them into this mess, and so would her brothers. Her sister was the one who led her to this cat, and she had been killed much before any others.
The heavy rain soaked through her thin pelt, freezing her skin. Then, she heard a low, fatherly voice, one she had never heard in her entire life:
"Are you alright?"
