A/N: I hope I did Shun's character justice! Inspired by a throwaway line in the movie.
The first time Shun grew out facial hair was a booming success. Suddenly, girls who've never taken the time to glance at him stared as if their lives depend on it. Their eyes, bright with emotions that can only be described as lust mixed with curiosity, stared straight onto his angular jawline. The hair on his face was light, both in color and in amount. He would meet their gaze, and flash an approving glance.
"Hey there," he'd greet, knowing that he had the power to make their hearts flutter and their stomachs drop. These girls and their reactions were palpable, and immediate. Shun couldn't believe it at times. Having adrenaline pump through Shun's veins all because of this attention intoxicated him. He felt like the world dropped in his hands, as if he was in control and he was invincible.
"I could get used to all of this attention," Shun whispered to himself, allowing a casual smirk to cross his face. He biked to school, as usual, but somehow, it was different knowing that girls swooned when he pedaled by. Being the center of attention was disarming. What if his whole life was further scrutinized because he was attractive? Shun, for a brief but terrifying moment, pictured his life as wholly visible, minimized as if he was some sort of ant caught under a magnifying glass. It was unnerving, to be constantly pushed in the limelight because of some superficial change.
Shun found himself laughing, a bubbling sensation at the center of his chest. Hair that lined his jaw made him more attractive, but beautiful features and good looks faded. What he looked like would change from week to week, from month to month, and even from year to year. Just because he could control a girl's feelings now didn't make him inherently more interesting. What people thought of him physically was more of a reflection of what ran through other people's minds. After all, words that weren't constructive wouldn't help Shun become a different person.
The first time Shun shaved was a relief, despite now blending in the background faster than he could realize. It was liberating, to be seen solely as Shun Kazama. He had a nuanced personality, one that was influenced by environment and circumstance.
His face was his own; judgment was not.
