Strange…

I can smell everything that every dog smells. I can hear everything that every dog hears. I see everything that they see. I am part of every dog and yet, I am apart. All of the dogs knew the Choice had happened. We were ready. We have wait for a long time for the Choice to come again. Our voices were loud and clear. We made our decision. The Darkness would not take our place, our kind, and our people. Now, we have paid our debts and we have a new Choice. We have yet to see the new path that the New Choice has open up. No worries, the Old Choice still has some good parts. Humans will still take care of us and love us. In turn, we will watch them and love them in return.

Right now, I have another choice to make.

Boss needs me. He needs someone to watch out and protect him. Nita cannot watch him all of the time. No, that is my job because he is my person. I…I don't want him to be alone and sad. Boss needs me to make sure he doesn't work to hard. Boss needs me to protect him.

I can't be a pup. They need time to grow. I couldn't keep up with Kit on his duties as a wizard if I was a pup.

I can't be a small dog either. Boss's dad doesn't like small dogs. I couldn't catch squirrels if I was a small dog.

A large dog isn't too old or too young that has been around my place. Most of all, he must not have any humans.

Let me see…Perfect!

Slowly, I open my eyes as the sun rose from behind the houses. I shake my fur from out of my eyes and get up from the ground. I did circles to try out my new body. Yes, very good for helping my human and chasing squirrels. I smell food and hear the sounds of cars and people. It was home. I ran down the streets to find Boss. Boss should be taking his walk now. It didn't take long for me to find him. I could smell him for miles away. He was standing at the corner. I could smell how much pain and miserable Boss was in. He misses me that much. I am going to change that.

I walk across the street toward him, jumped up onto the sidewalk, and stop in front of him. I look up at him and I could tell he was about to laugh. He lean over and scratch my ears.

In the wizard's talk, he said, "So listen, guy, just where did you come from?"

I shook my fur out of my eyes and look up at him. That's sort of a funny thing question, I said. You should know. You were there, too!

The End.

A/N: One of things I love about these books is the relationship between Kit and Pouch. I hope you enjoy my little story. Read and review if you wish.
