A Moments Reprieve

The moon was full. Glowing brightly, like a silver coin in candlelight, it illuminated the void that was the night sky. It also provided the perfect light for stargazing. The observer was a young woman of 20. A short-sleeved white tunic with fraying gold trim hid a lithe yet strong body. Brown leather breeches were tucked into tall black boots. Long Dark brown curls framed weathered features. Intelligent hazel eyes, a straight nose and chapped lips rested on the tanned face. A gold broach shaped like a winged horse, faceted with tiny ruby eyes glinting in the light, rested on her breast.

An emerald, travel worn greatcoat, frayed and faded, rested nearby. Next to them was a very worn leather travel pack, a black message satchel with its silver clasp and a well cared for sabre sheathed in old black leather. Beside them was a set of horse tack – leather and green with gold trim were available. Its owner a gentle giant chestnut stallion clearly built for speed and endurance not beauty. It grazed lazily, muscles moving beneath the battle scarred coat bringing to mind the image of a steel knife wrapped in silk. Black hooves crushing the grass as it moved. The observer had no problem about letting the horse roam – he would not leave, as the two were faithful and loyal companions.

Seated on a grassy knoll the observer relaxed. Looking around she took in the rolling, green fields and the silhouette of the Green Cloak Forest. The forest lived up to its name – resting in the background like a giant cloak of shadow. A soft rustling filled the air as a gentle breeze brushed by. The grass rippled and swayed beneath its delicate caress. Above bright stars twinkled like a dusting of silver glitter on black velvet. A few wisps of clouds slowly swept across the sky, occasionally reflecting the light of the moon and stars.

Returning her gaze to the stars she sighed. Leaning back, she rested her head on her arms, her eyes never leaving the night sky. Picking out familiar constellations she grinned happily and stretched slightly before blowing a brown curl out of her face. Stretched out on a comfortable hill, under the enchanting night sky she felt at peace and settled in for a relaxing night of stargazing
