This is a short thing that I've adapted from an assignment from the creative writing class I'm in this semester. Enjoy!
Of Mario Kart and Sisters
"How 'bout we play some Mario Kart", Alex asked her sister, Kara, who looked at her and nodded with excitement. "You go get some snacks and I'll set up the game."
"Aye, aye captain" Kara said with a mock salute. She walked into the kitchen and looked through the cabinets for something to eat. "Do you want popcorn or chips Alex?" she yelled towards where she was.
"Popcorn, of course." Alex yelled back. The sound of the Wii starting up could be heard across the apartment. "Why was the TV up so loud?" she yelled in frustration. Kara giggled knowing that Alex had turned it up for their movie party last night. She must have drank a bit too much. Grabbing two bags of popcorn, a Dr. Pepper, and a Birch Beer, Kara went back to the living room.
"I'm back with the food and drinks." Kara sung seeing an annoyed Alex sitting on the couch, holding her head. She put down the snacks, sat next to her asked quietly, "Alex are you OK?" When she did not answer right away, Kara began to rub her back.
"I'm fine. It's just a headache, all I need is some Advil." Alex told her as she stood up from the couch. Alex ignored Kara's concerned look and continued, "Get the game started, I'll be right back." She walked into the bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet. Grabbing the Advil bottle she poured out two pills and put it back. "Waluigi again?" Alex asked walking back into the living room. She saw on the screen that Kara was waiting on the character select screen. Player two had already selected Waluigi.
"Come on Alex. You know Waluigi's my favorite character." Kara said with a laugh as Alex sat down to take the pills. Alex picked up her Wii remote and began to select a character. "Let me guess," Kara interrupted her, "You're gunna pick Mario."
"Mario's a classic." Alex defended his choice as she selected Mario.
"Mario is boring." Kara said, which caused Alex to gasp and look at her in horror. "He's the face of everything and he's not even the most interesting character. Everyone wants to play him."
Alex looked offended. "You just pick Waluigi because of the internet's weird obsession with him." She crossed his arms in defiance. Kara stuck her tongue out at Alex and turned back to the screen to pick her kart. Then it was time to pick a race track. "The usual?" Alex asked with a smirk. Kara smiled and the two began an intense game of "rock, paper, scissors" to find out who would pick the track.
"1, 2, 3, shoot" they said together Alex put rock and Kara, paper.
"You always win." Alex complained hanging her head in defeat. "How do you always win?"
Kara laughed and shook her head. "The alien always wins." Deciding to start off easy she selected Moo Moo Meadows. Looking over she saw Alex visibly relax and evilly laughed to herself. "Don't get too relaxed Alex. We're just beginning." They both leaned into the screen as the countdown began and started the race.
