Against all odds

Letting him go was the hardest thing Piper had ever been forced to do. Their last moment together up there, as he had tried to explain to her why he had to become an elder, was the most painful memory she would keep from him. His words echoed in her head. The Elders were wrong about us. They didn't think our love could survive, but it did. Our love blessed us in ways they couldn't even imagine. It gave you the strength that you needed to take over for Prue. It produced a baby with a greater future than any of us. And it made me ... become an elder.

Piper couldn't imagine how to go on without him. They had so hard fought to be together, so much pain and sadness endured; but they had never given up, because all the time they had known that they had each other. No matter what had happened, she had always been able to count on him. He hadn't found the right words to comfort her every time, but that wasn't even necessary. It had been enough for her when he had hold her in his arms, making her feel loved.

She remembered the time the elders had taken him away from her after they had tried to get married secretly. It had hurt her so much to even think about a life without him and nothing compared with the happiness she had felt after they had sent him back. But this time she knew that there was no way that he would return to her. This time she really had to face a life where she would never feel his tight embrace, his loving words and the soft touch of his lips again. Still she didn't know if she'd ever be able to give up on the hope that maybe, someday, she would have all of this back. The love of her life back.
