They had their flaws, but they were still perfect.
As I stand beside the beaming couple, my eyes brimming with tears of joy, my mind wanders back through the past year-and-a-half and how it all came to be...
It wasn't love at first sight. Well, maybe it was for him, but it definitely wasn't for her. She was in love with another man.
But, time passed, and everything changed. Alison grew to love Rafe as much as he already adored her. And they were happy.
Until he had to leave. Like Paige did... and Casey, and Amy, and Eve. I know that now. I know it all. That doesn't mean I have to like it.
Apparently, Rafe didn't like it either. He couldn't bear to be apart from Alison, his "angel," his life. He knew he could never handle leaving her.
That truth laid buried deep in his heart every day of those last thirteen weeks. How could he realize his every dream, then have it all ripped away from him? It wasn't fair...
Someone else knew it, too. I don't know who, but I know it couldn't have been someone from Rafe's home "up there." It was someone - no, something - from way down below. Some monster without a soul, who took pleasure in torturing a true angel, a good angel, like Rafe.
That monster tempted my poor cousin into signing his soul over to the devil. He did it to return to earth, to be with Alison, but it didn't work out that way.
Yes, Rafe came back to us, but something was horribly wrong. He returned to Port Charles with no memory of the past ten years of his life. Can you believe it? He didn't remember Port Charles, Alison, or even me!
You know, come to think of it, I still can't believe that... How could I possibly be forgettable? Anyway, back to my story...
So, Rafe didn't remember anyone or anything. Lucky for him, though, Alison and I held a little séance and figured out how to help him. And we did! We sure did. We saved his soul...
When Rafe's memory returned, everything else seemed to fall into place. He and that witch Livvie had their farce of a marriage annulled, and he reunited with his true love, Alison.
And let me tell you! Nothing could have made me happier than when he and Alison told me they were getting married. Alison was finally going to be a Coe - okay, a Kovich - but our family was a place where she'd always belonged.
So, now, here I stand, front and center at Port Charles' Queen of Angels Church, listening to my beloved cousin and his bride exchange wedding vows. And I am happy. We are all happy.
The dark cloud that's loomed over our town for the past couple years seems to finally be lifting... Only one thing could possibly make me happier... my "Doc"..
I don't know how to help him, but I am going to try my best. Because, I love him. I love him with all my heart. And, if there's one thing I've learned from the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Rafe Kovich, it's that love will save us all...
